Keeping your eyes glued to the water for signs of any carp activity and then casting a single high attract hook bait or a small PVA bag at a rolling fish often produces an instant result. The problem is unless you are fishing a swim that you know particularly well, you can never be quite sure what you are actually casting into, deep or shallow water, thick weed, soft silt, who knows? In such a situation when we are looking for an instant response from the fish, there's no time to explore the area with a feature finding rod, the chances are we would probably spook the fish anyway. What we need is a ready prepared rig that can be quickly tied on and confidently cast into the unknown, but how do we go about selecting or constructing such a presentation?
Here's an idea that has been fine tuned and thoroughly tested by a number of well respected anglers over the last couple of years or so.
THE SNOWMAN RIG
The rig consists of 50cm of 15lb Nash Bullet line, which has high abrasion resistance and a colour that blends nicely into most back grounds. A 2cm length of supple braid is tied to the end of the mono line to enhance the turning effect of the hook, the two materials are joined using a small rig ring or shock leader knot.
Hook choice is a size 7 Nash Fang tied up using a knotless knot with a 1cm gap between the bend of the hook and the hook bait which consists of a specially prepared slow sinking single boilie or balanced snow man combination.
