Alex I'm going to say it more bluntly than any of these lads will, you need to quit with the can't afford this can't afford that comments, "affording" something is irrelevant, it's also irrelevant how much money you may or may not have, disagreements are fine it's a fact of life but insulting people and making loaded coments like take it out on ya wife are disgusting and un called for.... Just no need for it. We are all in it for the same thing..... Carp! Hence the name of the forum. It's not insult.com is it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

what a shame, you clearly put a lot of thought into your fishing, i honestly thought we had a new valued member to our noddy community. but going by your 6 years in a cage id say your far to Ard to be on a forum like this. some have a rant a go quiet for a while and realize they have been a numpty, but going by your last 2 comments i see you dont have the mental capacity for that, probably best if you do do as you said and delete your account. i cant see anyway of coming back from the utter rubbish you have just spouted.

chill out lads, a difference of opinion is all. if dal has 100% proof that sacking does indeed shorten the life of the carp then im sure those of us that think sacking is ok will have a change of heart. if not, then alex is entitled to his opinion as is dal, no need to throw barbed comments at each other.

    Chub...

Only the second chub trip of the season, all on floating dog biscuits, freelined down with the current. Three today, 2lb 8oz, not pictured, 2lb 9oz and a 3lb 9oz. Looking a bit tatty around the tail end, so I took a picture for reference. Better looking and snuck out from climbing along a tree root until I was mid flow.

    Pulling a straight line !

Sought advice before Wader purchase and was told there's still a good pair in the lake somewhere as the silt claims all. I'm a good swimmer but not if my feet are up to my knees in the thick stuff

Why so many pictures of a fish?

I always take pictures no matter how big or small, on runs water or rock hard, for me its a visual record. Its great to look back and know that I'v had a fish at a low weight that is now part of the A team or that as clearly been moved to another water or escaped, one pic each side sometimes isn't enough to completely tell if its said fish or not, a few angles help big time( I remember coops convinced I'd had a fish from a water I'd never fish , but the extra pics showed a slight scale difference, otherwise they were identical twins)or just because it was so long back , its refreshing. I always say (since going digital) take snaps non stop, out of 20 or so I will at least get one that I can bare to look at myself that can be framed on the wall, it doesn't take any longer as I'm not posing for each take, just whack 'em off as I admire my catch. I don't take pics for anyone but me, its only for me, but I don't mind showing the odd pic off as I don't care if you recognise it and know where it came from, or if I'v given you to much of a clue to what swim it came out the well done you for know that water so well... I'd hate to think that if I ever lost my mind ( which seems as common as cancer ) that I couldn't at least see pics to remind me I Angle!!!...a horrible thought!!

    Anyone fishing?

Had a great day yesterday, ended up, all started wrong as I was up all night and so over slept. Went to a local commie with my boy, but it was closed for a match, ended up at another lake which isn't so much of a commie, and had a great day catching 1lb-2lb carp on scaled down ledger set up. Couldn't believe the runs I was getting. Bonus was a couple of 1lbish rudd on the float rod. I had fun and the boy was happy, so good day all round [emoji4]

    Tench fishing

The magic of tench fishing has me thinking again about past rewards and making the dream come true. The good thing with tench fishing is that it is pretty much scaled down carp fishing, although the magic of watching a float on a misty summer morning is always good. I managed a day out this week, and caught my first intended tench for a lot of years, strangely enough, as I said on scaled down carp tackle. A multi rig with an 8mm pop-up on its own accounted for a 4lb8oz male tench this week. I had to get the scales out as my estimation on other species is well out. I looked and reckoned on 3lb to start with, but decided to weigh it to be sure. Very happy when the scales went to 4lb plus. The ground baited area with Sweetcorn as bait stayed untouched which was a bit of a surprise. Think this lake will be worth some time on my short sessions as it has produced some double figure tench and bream in the past

Trying to get back at it

Sorry for late reply guys been busy.. Just got my new reels today ready for when I get out there and find them carp. Been watching a few nash videos on youtube to try give me a few points on where to start, with it being a fresh new lake I'm going to be hitting and with me so out of the swing of things. So first main thing I keep hearing is ask around see if I can get any pointers on where to start. So here it is, I'm going to be fishing alderfen lakes and will be fishing the pads lake as this is supposed to be better for a run(or should I say easy for a novice like me) anyone that has fished it and could give a bit of advice where to fish would be appreciated! Was going to set up there then go for a stalking sesh through out the day

    The 6th sense?

Steve, I honestly suspect that my son Alan is amongst them. He doesn't get to fish as often as he'd like due to young family and all that but he always out fishes me and, at socials, is frequently top rod, even if fishing unfavoured swims. If he wasn't my son I'd be tempted to poke him in the eye. Ian

    Pulling a straight line !

Sounds exciting great stuff, I can see why you'd want to spend time there. If theres any danger you shouldn't risk going in, I stepped over some reeds into inches of water and plunged straight to the top of my waders in silt, ended up having to drag myself 30 yards back to the swim to get out, if the reeds were not there to grab onto I'm not sure I would have got moving. Ended up being up to my neck semi swimming with a rod in my hand - real pro look!

    Pulling a straight line !

Cheers for most of the replies chaps. Just to clarify for those that think i'm leaning into the fish with the intention of removing it's lips, I apply what i call reasonable pressure to try and steer them through the lillies but as i was unhappy with the practise i sought some advise. Kev thanks for your suggestion mate i will get my other set of rods out that have a bit more backbone than the Greys and only pull for a break as others do when i'm sure fishy has left the building. Not going to move as i love this spot and would never disturb the lillies anymore than occurs when playing the fish through them ! Unlike some places we like to leave after a session with no indication we were there

He's throwing comments at me and they're being thrown back. I'm a very humble person and genuinely don't brag about money but if he wants to argue, I'll say something I know which will wind him up. Maybe you should read the posts I made apologising to EVERYONE, actually in two posts I apologised to everyone. But he carried on. Have a go at the instigator, not the one being on the foul end of it. And it's true. If he has had a bad day, don't come on a forum and rant, take it out on the wife instead, not people who have already apologised and then still getting rounds fired at them. This is my last post and I'm deleting my account anyway because there's too many bell ends on here who slate people and don't even have where they come from on their profile because they know they're prick themselves and would probly have had a beating by now

    Pulling a straight line !

For fish in lilies, the only time I ever point the rod at the end tackle is when I'm positive the fish is off. Keep the bend in the rod and carp usually kick themselves free. If they do sulk and lock up, I put the rod back on the rests, leave it until it comes out. You actually want to tire the fish out in the middle of the lake fighting those pads, as you almost want the fish on the surface as it comes back through that lot. A swim with that many lilies on at Nazeing, if you cast beyond them, would be an instant ban as Lea Valley consider it a risk to fish safety. You can cast alongside them to a channel between an island and the margins, but over them, Ban!

I fish barbless on these types of waters and if the fish get bogged in the Lilly's they can generall shake the hook free , i wont pull for a break until in confident the fish is off , just watch the line and feel for the fish on the other end , eventually the line will remain still

It's not something I've done for any length of time 10 mins max while I sort out camera etc. So what do you guys make of the shots of multiple slings out after " # busy night " you see it all the time on social media . I see some of you are enjoying the monster carp TV show.... Tom Dove retains two 30's for the morning shot in the last episode but no one picks up on that or mentions it . If there was a big problem it think it would be more high lighted . If you have been present when a lake is netted/ sectioned off/ drained etc Then your know too how fish are kept in far tighter groups over night than you could ever reproduce with a retaining sling with no harm done ..... there not as precious & delicate as people are making out . Also this thought about them sitting in the upper layers to long ..... what about when they are just sunbathing all day in an area normally the shallows ? Do you think hang on better not fish for them they might be low on oxygen, no we start firing floaters at them . Things get picked apart & thought about far to much. If I did catch one that I wanted really good shots of I would stick in a sling till the morning with no worries tbh . Use your common sense & I don't see any problems occurring apart from getting beaten up by it in the morning

    Anyone fishing?

I used my barbel rod with a centrepin and trotted a waggler through, armed with maggots. Several roach, some dace and a plump 2lb ish perch graced my mat. I loved doing a back to bum basic fishing weekend in great company. Three of us fished, all caught. Mission accomplished, I think. Ian
