First little bash with the new centre pin gear on the river this evening. Great fun way to spend 3 hours and 2 pints of maggots. Managed many many dace, various sizes, nothing massive. Never caught a dace before. There were larger fish about, but I struggled to get through the small dace and minnows. Managed at the end to start getting the bigger dace. Was time to go all too soon! Some work to do to master the centre pin, but by the end I had it moving nicely, and was able to fish further out into the river. 2 things were frustrating. Welcome to the forum. The best bit of advice I can give you is don't set targets. Just enjoy your fishing and fish lakes where it's possible to catch your target and just fish but without a particular aim as imo you'll get fed up quickly if you don't achieve it.

jim, i have got that exact pod in my bankstick bag, i got mine over 8 years ago and the only thing wrong with it now is the zip went on the bag. cracking piece of kit for the pennies it cost, not everyones cup of tea but just goes to show that not everything cheap is car boot tat

I don't think Phil is having any sort of pop at the people who buy this range of tackle. The way I read it, he was noting the over inflated rrp's. He was asking 'do you think the tackle is worth the rrp?'

Completely agree big common I couldn't care what people fish with & have said Exactly what you have many a time .... just pointed out that the rrp's were ridiculous. Someone else tried to make it about what I might earn & that noses would be turned up if you were seen in some boots where I live . Both false assumptions. Hello Adam I can still remember when I first started fishing ; it was on a local stream - Gudgeon , Dace and maybe a Chub ! . And yes , lots , and lots of Minnows ! .

Well in an ever changing world I know I can rely on Superfly to catch a big old Carp every month as regular as clockwork . I see you have changed to your Winter headwear Superfly .

Going this weekend with my dad to a runs water hopefully we can catch a few before this cold weather kicks in

Had 27 carp from 33 takes to 24 lb from Naseby a couple of weeks ago. The place itself wasn't my cup of tea at all but I can't say I didn't enjoy what turned into a very wet, muddy weekend. A right laugh as a one-off. Back on the syndi this week dreaming of 40 lb commons.

''not too expensive'' If you go every other week for a 24hr session it's going to cost you nearly 900 quid in your first year - sounds a bit expensive to me.
