Cheers mate .... your chuckle at this, I had a text off my mate at the other end of the lake , I can make him out just about from where I am . Any way .... he's only gone & caught the lake record at a new weight of 74 + . I'm like straight up ???? He's like yeah shaking mate absolutely buzzing . " Jesus mate I'm reeling in I'll be round asap " I could see he was being busy in his swim getting things sorted etc . My hearts pounding by this point . Anyway he's obviously watching me through the bins as as I go to reel in the phone goes... " April fools "

Just landed another after wading 80 yards up the bank trying to get the right angle on it to no evail , so called the bailif & out we went in the boat . after some freeing of line from the lillies I was back in contact with it & we slipped the net user it . Smallest of the trip so far but well worth the effort . 32lb

Well after a 12 hour journey it's all worth while , currently chilling out with a gin & tonic . Managed to land a fifty earlier today, so a great start to the week 😁 . It's tricky, out in front of me is thick lillies but there not high enough to see yet so finding the channels in them takes a bit of time . Had the fish from a spot 100 yards out in a channel between lillie beds .

I’m sorry I’ve had to keep re quoting as for some reason it’s only letting me post 2 pics at a time πŸ€”πŸ€” I’m not very tech savvy so apologies πŸ™„πŸ™„ The water I was fishing is hammered by the pellet/boilie approach and I think doing something different with the maggots was the key to my success. All in all a good day,my only regret is I didn’t take more maggots and stay on for the night πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

    Ace hooks

With everything going on with the house leading up to my French trip last week , it was all left rather last minute on a lot of things . And a quick dash to my mates tackle shop was all I managed. Needed some size 2's & all he had in stock were the ridgemonkey selection! They know what I'm like when it comes to tackle especially hooks , but after pooley assured me that these were the Ace hooks just rebranded & he uses them him self I went for them . Well safe to say I was well impressed with them , the one hook did me the 50 lber 45 / 46 & it still was good to go , fishing locked up & giving it stick in the lillies so gave them a proper test , banging hook holds, didn't blunt on the lillie stems couldn't find fault with them tbh . Had a battle with a cat which will always test your end tackle too . I used the straight point pattern & would happily recommend them

So after a couple of blank day sessions and an overnighter last wk i was still after my 1st fish of the year. With that in mind me and the mate went to one of the more popular waters on our club card and rolled up at 10 o’clock to find the place very quiet..... that in itself is a result πŸ˜‰ After a quick mooch I was encouraged to see a few fish mooching around the far bank and island so out went 2 zigs. This particular water doesn’t have many silvers (or so I’d been told) and gets hammered with pellet and boilies and as it’s only the second time I’d fished there I’d took a couple of pints of maggots as a back up approach. After an hr or so the zig did it’s job and a fish just shy of 20 graced the net,my first fish of the year. 😬The next 4 hrs was frustrating to say the least. I had fish in front of me but no bites followed dispite trying different colours and water levels it was time to try something different.A simple 12 inch IQ rig and maggot clip with a small bag of maggots hooked on was chucked out. I’d been drip feeding dead and live maggots all day in a couple of spots and with zigs frustratingly not working I decided to give it an hr while I had a brew and a bit of a chill....... 10 minutes later a screamer of a run seen this pretty high teen on the mat.A recast and finish me brew and a smoke I put a few more deads in and put both rods on maggots. Half an hr later another screamer of a take and another fish just over the 20 mark.

First fish of 2019, here’s two of the 6 caught over the last 24 hours. None of the bigger fish from the lake but very welcome after a few hard winter nights. Also chuffed to bits to land my first fish using zig rigs. πŸ‘πŸ˜‰

.... and the FireMaple stove too...... I don't buy anything from any firm that doesn't manufacture themselves. Trakker don't make stoves, or waders, or rods etc...... they buy other brands, whack their logo on, and charge double. It's always worth doing the research to see who makes what. Buy from a firm that manufacture their own gear i.e for stoves go with Bulin, for waders go with Ocean/Vass etc, for rods go for Century/Harrison etc.... it's the only way to guarantee you end up with good gear.

Ended up being a bit hectic last night with two 30 lb carp & a 35 lb cat , all coming within a few hours off a spot I've been baiting all week but not had a sniff from , so glad I kept a rod on it . As I nearly didn't last night !

Totally agree. It's supposed to be hard figuring this stuff out. That's why it's such a buzz when you do. There is no satisfaction in making it easy. That frustration you feel during the low points is what makes the high points so high.

There's only one way to get confident with zigs lads and that's to catch carp on them. You can't do that if you don't use them. Believe me when I say you can be writing off the majority of the day at certain times of the year by not using them. It's up to you guys but imo it's madness to disregard them because you used them without success on one or two sessions. If we did that with bottom bait tactics we'd all have given up fishing a long time ago. You only need one session where you work out where in the water column the carp are and have it off to realise how effective they can be. If the carp are up in the water and you're fishing on the deck you don't stand a chance, particularly in spring when temps are so important to them, it's like fishing with one arm tied behind your back. You need to present your hookbait where the carp are, simple fact lads.

Not a soul on the park lake today. I think an Environment Agency visit this week catching a few local anglers who thought it was worth the risk of not having a licence might have put them off.

Great result ! Was that 7 bags (?) of Dynamite Robin Red. Just remember its not magic, you have to get the other factors right as well, such as location etc., But I have been using my own version of RR baits for nearly 20 years and still think well of it. BOF
