The first fish 23lb taken on a decent camera, and the 28 from the other side. Both fish fell to my Garlic and Megaspice pop-ups on helicopter rigs with a 4 bait stringer. The 28 was excreting Vitalin heavily where I had tipped a bucket of sloppy Vitalin 'liquid' in over the spot. The 23 I really didn't get a chance to look. I think the 23 had me made up, my largest fish from this year, but the 28 really blew me away, I'm still buzzing. Andy (@crusian), I think the fish colour up to the water over time. I don't know whether the 28lb is a VS fish or not, if it is that is a heck of a growth rate! I think the fish mix as I know the area has produced originals in the past.

FUMING is not the word...rang my local A.D to see if my order was in store...after all the rigmoral...basicaly the order not processed and has been missed...luckily I got a refund. Soooo...on my way home I chanced Go Outdoors...they didn't have the Sonik Spod Reel but the basic 8000....so i picked up the 8000 reel...2 spools of Braid...2 lots NGT distance sticks (1 for mate)...proceeded to till. After putting it through she replied Β£35...????????? She handed me all the gear so I walked to car....looked at receipt to see if half price...she had NOT put the reel through...saving of Β£45. So now ordered 2 x Spombs & Spomb Float off eBay.

    Thought of the Day pt.2

It has been a very healthy year weather wise. No mental heat waves has meant the carp have continued to feed throughout the entire summer and this is reflected in fish weights. All over the country fish are coming out at top weights, MASSIVE weights. It's also done the environment the world of good. The grass is green and the water is clear, unlike last year when the grass was brown and the water was pea green!

I know that by learning that the biggest koi swam with the A Team, I managed to catch the biggest in the pond after spotting the Koi hanging around at the end of a weedy bar one morning. He was their downfall in the end even though he was pretty elusive. Whether he was a leader or not I'm not sure.

How to make to most of autumn

Never be afraid to move. Numerous times I've moved after catching fish. Most times its paid off but there will always be that time when you should have stayed. I recall one time on my old syndicate and I'd had 3 fish one morning. The wind turned and as soon as it did I was packing away. Another member questioned why move after 3 fish and I just said i know the fish will move. He wanted to know where I was going as his gear was on his Barrow, naturally I said nothing. He said, well I'll jump in here then when you move, I just laughed and moved. I got to the swim I wanted, cast my 3 rods. Half hour later I saw the first fish show about 70/80 yds away to my right. I had 3 fish in the following 2hrs. The other bloke set up in my swim and blanked. You can't catch if the fish arent in front of you, it's that simple.

How to make to most of autumn

Don’t let the date on a calendar change the way to fish. To my mind these last 3/4wks have been near to perfect fishing conditions and in turn the fish WILL feed to the conditions, not what time of the year it is. I’ve been putting a lot of time on my local,as you can see by the catch reports doing around 4 day sessions a wk. At the end of every session at least 4k of boilie/pellet/particle was getting spodded onto the spots, given the weather was spot on for a big feed. If we’d had clear, cold, high pressure days/nights I’d of put far less in but still keep it going in. Good luck on your session Elmo. 😬😎🎣

Anyone had proper job pop ups?

IMO you don't want really buoyant pop-ups for the multi rig, having huge blobs of putty makes a definite tangle point. I prefer a reliable medium buoyancy pop-up with a small amount of putty. Just my findings for what its worth. πŸ‘

There's Buzzards where I fish in Suffolk , Welder , they always circle high in the sky with a very distinctive call ; only trouble is I need a proper camera , rather than my 'phone , set up on a tripod ready to roll - the Buzzards don't hang around very long . Don't get me started on the Kingfishers , stand still , dam it ! , although they're beautiful in flight .

How to make to most of autumn

I've got a bucket of chicken corn and hemp soaking ready for boiling tomorrow, once thats done I'll sling a kilo of KMG boilies in it, and since I've swapped shifts on Saturday from late to early, I can go prebait and walk the dog round the reservoir for fishing Sunday until Tuesday. As I said it has been taking the carp two days to settle onto bait. The 28 was excreting chicken corn and hemp shells all over me last week, so maybe prebaiting a day early will give me first night results... Thats a hope, I'll probably blank now. Not been the nicest weather for camping or catching my last three trips, wet and windy. I've had rain blowing under the brolly, so this week the overwrap came out of storage. Needed it as well, Monday night was weird. 10pm it was blowing heavily with absolute monsoon rain from south east, and I caught. By 11 it was calm and clear, could see the moon, then at 2am, windy as heck again with showers and I caught again. In fact, I haven't caught unless it has been persisting it down with a decent blow on the reservoir. I've found a decent wind with rain some of the best autumn to winter conditions for years.

Mufty, got to agree that kites are lovely to behold. Earlier this year I was fishing the tiny River Alne near Alcester and had the joy of watching two adult kites encouraging a youngster to do what they did.. The calling was fascinating. Ian.

Can't beat a few extra bits and bobs, got a few in mine. Infact I've been piling the bait in my current lake and my mate who is on the bait with me has had 2 40's in the last 2 weekend's. Both fish at their highest recorded weights. Well chuffed for him. They certainly know there stuff at prem '

Anyone had proper job pop ups?

Not with my casting technique mate - that's all I know. Don't forget that with the Multi your talking about an extremely low pop-up, maybe if it were higher it wouldn't be able to turn and catch under the putty, but it can. Granted it's quite rare that it happens but occasionally it does. A lot of this will depend on how stiff the hooklink is, I know that with the materials I use, big blobs of putty are a no no Urban baits pop-ups stay up for days, hold up a size 4 and only require a small amount of putty, I've tested a lot and these work perfectly for me πŸ‘

Yeah that's going to be my next thing I think but will try the remote first as I now have it, I've got the whistle app and while it is good enough for days I do agree with Yonny that phones are hard work for night shots, I really struggled the last few times tbh, also I am hopeful of a lump or two so it would be nice to get some good shots it's something I've always been slack at and now I generally fish on my own it would be nice to get the shots I want to see,

Imo it's essential to light the scene for self takes. The flash on modern DSLR's are good - good enough to produce well lit pics imo. The problem is focus. With no light source (between shots) the camera will struggle to focus. Therefore the shots my be bright enough with just the flash but they will be of poor quality. The floodlight type lights (Rhino Beam etc) are a very cheap way of achieving great self-take pics at night. I would recommend them highly.

    Need a new bait company

I've been using the aminos basemixes for longer than I can care to remember, I used to buy robin red separately and add it myself, then Tony pointed out that I could just buy aminos RR with the red already added... Hmmmm... Felt a bit silly at that point! Spending more money to make a base they already sold! Just knocked up another load of bait this afternoon, aminos RR, with their awesome salmon oil and cream stimulant additive, plus a few extra bits and bobs, betaine, shellfish sense appeals, smoked ham flavour, egg albumin, and salt. With a dash of red dye to really make the bait a nice bold red. I use the same bait all year round and it keeps catching wherever I take it, what more could you ask? I do sometimes think I should update it, but then again, why? It's been going into my venues for years, the catches haven't dropped off and when I feed them, they will demolish it, so why fix what isn't broken?
