    What is your newest purchase

Well I ordered a new barrow on Monday night and it arrived today. A daiwa fold loader, I've not used it yet but I am well made up with it, it's not the biggest Barrow in the world but it is plenty big enough for my needs, which are days and overnighter's and maybe the odd 48 hr now and and again, really well built everything seems solid on it, it came with 2 pannier bags for the sides and a front bag. I haven't tried loading it up yet but it does seem well balanced, when i wheeled it there's virtually no weight to it at all.

Well I've taken a couple of pics. The first shows what I can only guess are non fertilised eggs. Still white and with what seems to be a jelly forming around them. This next pic though is showing what looks to be embryos and the eggs obviously clear. You can just make out black dots/ lines in the egg. Looking good I feel. Certainly a lot more infertile than fertile. These eggs were collected on friday.

Well been out and got a small tank so I can see better. They were in the bucket i collected them in with an air stone in from my pond. I've noticed a few black dots appearing in a couple of the eggs to which i assume are the eyes. I'll try and remember to take some pics.

Well the fish had to spawn at some point so not expecting a fish when they are in that mood. As for trying to picture the fish in the water, I'll wait til I'm holding it Haha. Once the boat comes out the fish sometimes have a feed up. We put it down to the added oxygen that's put in the lake by the boat. Wasn't to be this time though. On this occasion though I'd already had my bit of luck this morning with a 29lb mirror at 4-30am. Just haven't got round to uploading it yet Haha.

I fished for the first time on Wednesday night. As it got dark the fish decided it was time to spawn. Went back every day saw some nice fish spawning close in, buy yesterday it had all stopped so I went out for a night last night. Fish were showing this morning. Well at least until this came out. The Joy's of fishing a boating lake.

Lovely lake tbh, not too manhandled, still a bit rough around the edges and there is plenty to think about, this swim is a lot more overgrown than when I fished it years ago I think I've got a bit of a chunk in the net certainly a bigger than normal one 😁

Looking like the best 7 quid I've spent, too many mozzie idiots around tonight, it's been another day of go slow elmo tbh, I've seen a couple of backs over my baited spot, and some bubbles very weedy so I've cleared it a bit with a grippa lead, few liners have a feeling I may catch a bream tonight lots of twitchy line bites so far, I've had a moorhen all over me today has been in the bivvy and all sorts, Time for a cider and dinner I think

A man with a plan. 👍 I've spent the day cooking up particles. Two pressure cooker full of tigers, 1 of peanuts and a large Burco full of pigeon conditioner/hemp mix. That's a seasons worth of tigers. And as for the peanuts, the goldfish and tench in my pond couldn't get enough of them. Just hope the carp feel the same when I go tomorrow night.

Pro tip for any vapers that order liquid online, been getting mine from Red Juice for the past few years and now have a bin liner full of large packing nuggets they always send even small orders in a box with nuggets it's a real good PVA and chunky,

    Spawning Carp

Yes it does mean you can see some of them. Uncaught fish often show up at spawning time April is unlikely when they spawned, larger and deeper waters take longer to warm up to the temperature carp need to spawn, so even now some may not have spawned yet, and if the carp are area residential, they may not be ready. Not every carp in a lake spawn, although @Levigsp has written about an exception, or they do not spawn all at the same time. The exception is if new male fish have been stocked into the water, the next year all female fish will spawn. I must say though, and I am not disagreeing with Frank, but in a large reservoir it would be difficult to prove that. So if not every fish in a lake spawn, there are some that can still be fished for! In fact to be honest I am not totally sure of the need to close a fishery when fish spawn, other than to stop anglers casting into splashing bundles of spawning fish. Some aren't spawning, some are munching mates fish roe! In fact it is likely carp seen splashing in April, could well have been eating perch, roach or other fish spawn that do not require such high water temperature. Not all carp appear to spawn in the same area, although there is often one feature that provides the right environment, be it rushes, lily beds, overhanging waterside grass, then most will spawn there, but on larger waters like reservoirs then there may be more than one spawning area. Pretty much as soon as the major spawning is done, fish go on a munch, energy and protein hunt, protein for tissue repair, and energy as first requirement. Carp may also spawn more than once if the temperature is warm enough. As soon as they are emptied, the body starts producing eggs again, so they can go off again.

I've looked online and it says once they hatch then they live off the egg sack for a few days. After that it says to feed 1 day old brine shrimp as they are tiny, though these are hard to get apparently so it said to hard boil an egg. Take out the yoke and put it in some water and turn it to a liquid. Then add drops of this. Do this for a week or so I think it said and then onto solids. So I guess fry crumb.

On a plus side to them spawning I did manage to grab some weed with eggs in. I've never taken any before but thought I'd take some so will see if I can get them to hatch and if they do, keep them alive Haha

It's over 200 acre reservoir, the manager seems to believe they've already spawned in the hot weather back in April, they may go again but he doesn't close. I'll just enjoy learning my new venue for the first time, come what may👍

    Snag fishing

So long as your line is not crossing anything too snaggy and it's clear up to the snags you want to fish too it should be ok to fish locked up and sit near your rods there is a very good chance they will try for cover on a run but if you can hold them even for a brief second they will turn to slack line and head for open water and boy does a 20lb fish fight when it makes a run you will need to slacken the drag and let it run it does depend on the snags though with the right line rushes and reeds are fine I've strimmed a fair few when the fish has got into the reed bed a bit. sunken branches and tree roots i'd stay away from. It's good to have a solid set up with rear rod grips that lock and a set of waders to bait spots and hand drop rigs if you can make your way around the margin areas.
