    Allo Allo Allo ….

Blimey , you’ve got a good memory 😊 He’s fine mate , off to secondary school in September, and he’s been progressing so well that my Mrs has been able to go back to work full time . We have a few small childcare issues but as I’m on a rotating shift pattern myself we are working around it nicely though it does mean there won’t be any weekday fishing trips outside the school holidays ( wifey works in a school). His nagging me to take him fishing is one of the reasons my interest in this lark has been rekindled somewhat . Im looking forward to introducing him to the art of bleak bashing and maggot drowning . it’ll be a family day though as he currently has the attention span of about 10 minutes unless it features an Xbox . Oh and bait boats are cheating 🤣🤣🤣🤣

  6. I was being a bit flippant, and i will make sure it's still safe but it will go to places I can't cast too easily 😏

  7. Not teaching you to suck eggs but I hope you only put it in places where you know you can extract the carp from safely. Too many people put it under far bank snags etc only for the fish to tether them up or cut them off.

  8. I've just gone to the darkside, it was either this or a baiting pole and this was less than half the price and will hopefully do the same job 😬🙄

  9. First pike trip of the year, in fact this season, has started well with 4 fish. The 2 smallest are 9 and 10lb, but I have just broken the pike PB as well with a 23

  10. Thought I'd have a looks at if I need anything before I go A D on Friday.... Ridgemonkey Light needed charging, only the 2nd time I've charged it in 12months..... Thought I'd pimp some bait up abit more... Sticky Krill on Right, Sticky Manilla on Left. Put 1 of each in a dowl to see how they will settle... Giving a good cloud and and scent from them... If that's just 1 imagine a good handful? 😳😳

  11. Bang in the middle @ 4ft with one on a a bright pop up and the others on zigs @ 2 and 3 ft. Near the sunken jettys. Eyes peeled as they'll almost certainly be shoaled up somewhere. If you spot one get all the rods in that area. Good luck buddy.

Hi, I’m new to the forum & I’d like to say hi to everyone out there. I live in the West Midlands & I’ve fished for many yrs for all U.K. species, mainly Carp & Pike though. looking forwards to the banter with all on the for, I’m in the process of training my new pup to be a regular fishing partner ( hopefully lol), any advice on this would be very welcome! Dave.👍🎣

  15. I'll never use a bait boat... just my (traditional) approach... my young apprentice asked me why I don't use one and I said a matter of three things... Cost, Carrying the things, and all the above reasons... I really cannot be bothered with them... my apprentice asked "if you want to fish a far bank spot accurately what would you do"? I said go and fish from the other bank...😜🤣

  16. This, unfortunately, does happen mate I’m afraid. I’ve seen a fish tethered as a result of an “angler” driving it around a snag to drop his bait tight to the margin behind the snag. I’m not against bait boats, but like all things, so long as they are used responsibly. (As I’m sure the majority do)

  17. Of course it happens and I'd say its rather naive to think it doesn't or wouldn't. I'm not for one minute saying anyone on here would, it was just a comment . Sadly not all carp anglers think or care about the safety of the fish and will "catch fish at all costs". These anglers don't need a bait boat to fish at all costs either. Fishing vicious snags on their own bank because the fish are holed up in them, it happens. For me personally, I don't agree with them. I've never used a bait boat or rowing boat, even on lakes where they have been allowed. If I can't cast there then I can't fish there. A lake i was a member of decided to let bait boats on and I stopped fishing there. I'd still go and see mates on there and couldn't believe my eyes where some anglers were putting their rigs.

  18. Like @framey, I've been used to using my mates Actor bait boat, but now the wife has bought me my own ( not actor, but I will use) I will also try and get into as many spots as I can.

  26. For simplicity you can’t beat a multi rig. Just two loops in coated braid. but like any rig you have to be able to tie it properly and use it properly too. imo everything has its purpose, you wouldn’t lash a supple hair rig with a bright pop up at a single show. Or use one on a crayfish infested lake. We always have to keep an open mind about rigs and use what’s appropriate based on; stock levels, angling pressure, nuisance species, crayfish, lake bottom, weed, what bait we are using, how we are baiting up, and plenty of other factors, even the genetics/physiology of the fish.

    Thought of the Day pt.2

Right, going to the local park lake Saturday Morning until about 3pm (ish) With this cold weather where would you guys start?... Yellow line is Fishing side only, you do get the odd 1/2 trying luck on other side, not really supposed to fish more than half way, but we do to the tree line, Blue line. Red circle is about 2-3ft in depth, Green circle is about 4ft in depth, Pink circle is 5ft but I know 1 part of it right at back drops to 6ft deep to a 6ft channel gully. ALL the lake is covered in silt all the way across (about 1 1/2ft) I've actually walked across the middle of the lake in my waders. The orange lines are old sunken Jettys that used to be there. They still feed the ducks here EVERYDAY. Anywhere on this lake is decent but the fish do really love the sun when it's out and the depths/snags at night. Heard only about 5/6 fish have been out in last few weeks.... So based on this week's weather, would would you guys start.

  30. The main reason I actually wanted one or a baiting pole was a little extra stealth tbh, there are a few spots I want to get working on this year that just aren't easy to cast to,and If I don't need to thrash the water to a foam then I won't hopefully ruin my session before it's started, I'm not going to stick it in dangerous spots, But ultimately the main reason I bought it was it was a 3rd of the price of the sections of baiting pole I needed to do the job I wanted, so I thought I would give it a go

  31. That's all I'm doing, 2 waters I fish have overhanging trees/branches, casting to them is a nightmare, but I will use the boat to go to just the edge of them, not all way under, but also even in open water to keep down disturbance.

  32. I’ve never seen it happen which is why I asked. question is what was under the set of snags as it may only be “snaggy” above water if it’s clear under then no problem if it’s snaggy under then yes he is a complete idiot.

  37. the whole of KWP gets weedy from june on, don't know what is going on they do a pricey night ticket on canal pool but they seem to have a lot of problems on that water they had to close it last year and get pumps in. think they had a weed boat out for one day last year on canal three fishable swims in mid summer for a water that size is a bit too wild.

  40. I understand that rechargeable batteries can develop a memory. After several "short" charges all they'll accept is just that. It's good to run them completely flat then soak charge. Apparently. Ian.

The new line is now soaking for 24hrs, Sonik Camo SubSonik in 18lb this time. Will spool on in morning, then hopefully walk to the lake with Dog and bed the 3 rods in and the Spod/Marker also. Paying for my yearly ticket Friday, might try and get out for few hours Saturday morning but no promises. Then a few niggly bits like charge Ridgemonkey and get some new Duracells in Square, Double A and Triple A, for Delks, Radio, Head torches....

  42. So much weed in front of me, hasn't died away. I did hear fish splash the first 2 nights, but the last 3 were quiet, although the coots were active. I prefer the cold to excessive summer heat, although packing up in the pouring rain was a bit much yesterday 😳

  43. My standard approach for bottom baits/wafters is a supple braid with line aligner. Like Yonny says, its what I’ve got confidence in particularly when a small pva bag of crumbled boilie is attached👍
