If anything the lead on a heli setup will plunge deep into the silt ... try the hinged stiff rig with an inline lead best over silt imo.

    Where do i start ...
Spring is just around the corner and the last time i posted was 2017 i was just getting back into my fishing after an extended period of time away from my one true passion in life fishing ...
To say alot has happened in the last few years would be an understatement both within my fishing and within my personal life i will leave the latter out and get down to what you guys wanna here about, where have i been, what did i catch well ...
Well the 2017 season for me was a right off it was my first year back and to had my fair share of blanks and only had a handful of fish all season nothing to write home about but the main thing was that i was back doing what i loved fishing.
    2018
Last season was full of twists and turns both in my fishing and my home life, once again i missed a fair chunk of time on the bank because of certain things out of my control, but i did get out and i did manage to catch a few.
    Center parks 2018
Yes a holiday to center parks was on the cards i went the previous year and i didnt no that it even had a lake or that you could fish so this year i made no mistake and my kit was packed along with the suitcases ...
If anyone knows the beach at center parks then they will no the carp love it there with all the bread going in from people feeding the ducks but the beach is out of bounds and you can only fish the other side of the bridge ... well the carp know this and you never see them on the other side of the bridge the swim nearest the beach has always got someone in it ... from what i observed the previous year pressure from that swim was keeping them on the other side of the bridge.
This year i was prepared for this and so on the very first night after darkness fell my plan was put into action ... i pre-baited ... i prebaited the feck out of that bridge for 3 nights ... my plan was to introduce a bait they wanted and would keep wanting in a short period of time but to also draw them to the other side of the bridge so i could get a line in where i could catch them.
On the 4th day i took an early morning walk upto the bridge and as i peered over the bridge i see my plan was working ... you would never see any fish on that side of bridge but what i see when i peered down was best described as a mud bath ... they were havin it on the side of the bridge they would never venture, it was at this point i thort ... get back to the cabin and grab them rods double time ... 25 mins later i was back and i cast a single out onto the spot it was tight with the bridge being just to my right so i chose to fish one rod locked up if they decide to go tight and get under the bridge i was done for.
It must of been a matter of mins and i had a liner ... being center parks the fish didnt seem to be bothered by noise and people clonking along the bridge right above them but what i will say is they know what fishing line is and after that liner it went dead ... im sitting there thinking why hasnt it torn off yet ... over the next hour i thort about it more still nothing ... then it hit me the line running along the bridge was cutting them off ... i reeled in and quickly added a flying backlead and cast back to the spot.
5 mins later i had a bleep ... then another ... then ..... beep beep beep beep as i watched my locked up rod bending and bouncing on its bank stick ... i was in and the fist did what i new it would do i went right it wanted to be back on the safe side and with the clutch locked up and putting as much pressure on the line as i dare i managed to turn it and i was away ... a 5 min battle presumed and then i had my first center parks carp sulking in the net.
Over the corse of the next 2 days fishing 3/4 hours a day i bagged 9 fish to 17lb not bad for a place i have never fished  ... the next morning of the last day i took my usual morning walk up to the bridge ... i see the odd fish coming from the beach side of the bridge dropping down grazing over my spot for a mouthful then back to the otherside of the bridge where it was safe.
It was at this point i see her... ive named her beach babe ... from the 9 fish i had already caught 8 of them where commons and nearly everything i had seen on the bridge over the last 5 days where mostly commons upto low twenties ... but beach babe was different she was a mirror she was wide across the back deep, dark and plump ... all the fish i had caught where long lean fish but not beach babe she was a stunner and she was feeding on my spot ... what was i to do.

By the time i got back the missis was packing up the car and it was time to go home ... beach babe will have to wait but as arnold said ... ill be back.

After fishing for near on 20 years and living 25 mins away from par fisheries i have never fished it mainly due to having to pre-book on and with the limited time i had on the bank it just wasn't an option when i find the lake fully booked on the odd day/night i had free.
This year i have loads of free time on my hands and so ...
    The Par Campaign begins
Gonna fish the Back lake so any tips will be nice i have my google earth map printed and ready  ;D

Catching 63 carp in a 24 hour session does not prove the bait is good just sounds like a very overstocked water with a fish a chuck not my kind of water but each to his own in these kind of waters anybait will work ... tbh i think you are wasting money with the key £10-12 a kilo at most tackle shops.
There are many small bait companys out there that produce bait just as good but half the price.

Some nice fish one thing i would suggest that is to keep the carp close to the ground and with a carp matt underneath them when taking photos i have see fish dropped from standing up position and its not a pretty sight ... the last photo of the fully scaled would of made for a much better picture if held in the correct way.
But some nice fish sir well done.

    Hi Everyone,
So i went fishing last night in a swim a friend recommended with the advice "fish as tight to the island as possible", So the island looked pretty far out, i set up anyway and attempted to hit it. Im using 12ft 2.5TC Grey's Prodigy rods, Shimano ST6000 reels, using a 3.5oz zip lead. One rod had 15LB line, one had 12LB line......It became apparent pretty quickly that i couldnt cast to the island, At my best cast i done about 19.5 wraps, so thats only just over 60yards i believe. I hit the clip once or twice but spent about 40 minutes trying to hit clip (the island was probably another 3 or 4 wraps away). I had no heavier leads. This is the first time i have had to cast that far and im really dissapointed to find how short my cast is, Im not weak i spend a fair bit of time in the gym so its not a strengh issue. My technique obviously isnt great judging by my results but thats something i can practise and work on when i go to venues that require that lengh of cast, so my question is really, Would changing to big pit reels make much difference? What distance is everyone else getting? HELP?

On a more positive note i did manage to catch 3 including a 28.6LB.........All from a margin lol.

Off out today with my daughter Liddy.
Going to visit Tricklebrook in Kent as there were no swims available at White Cottage.
It's not a runs water by any stretch, but we "normally" get a bend in the rod over there so I'm hoping to end this barren patch which goes back 6 months now.
Phone call to the Bailiff yesterday assures me that they haven't started spawning yet, so they should be in the mood for a scoff in the build up.
Last chance for the DPF line. If I don't get as much as a sniff again, it is definitely coming off.

I was thinking of getting hold of some actual mussels from the lake bed and using them straight on the hook ... i like the sound of the extract where could i buy this and what about getting some mussel boilies of some sort.
The only thing i have not tried is using a bottom bait ... ive been using pop ups on really short stiff rigs but not yet fished on the deck.
I may give this a try with a mussel boilie soked in extract fished on a basic knotless knot braided rig an old classic and sorta back to basics.

I am surprised that you haven't used bottom baits myself.

I rarely start with pop-ups, nearly always preferring bottom baits, actually going the other way round to you.
I nearly always start with a plain straight out of the bag hookbait, unless I know something of the lakes 'history'.
I look at it, the fish are feeding on my bait, why be different from that bait? Maybe the pop-up is above the lakebed and their feeding level, or maybe the pop-up is actually moving enough to 'spook' them as they are feeding, either way something is not right.

Start with basics, and progress from that, DON'T start advanced and have to go back or further, you can get confused.

I have a funny feeling that it is illegal to use raw mussels as bait, will be worth checking up on that.

A day walking around baiting and watching your spots in the margins could be a good idea, maybe with your stalking rod and a lift method float set-up. Either way if you get to see the fish eating your bait could be handy. I have watched carp munching and it can be useful, some carp pick up boilies, others suck them in, a plain basic back to basics hair rig, with a decent separation between boilie and hook can cater for both. A hinge rig above the lakebed can but you need it to be in feeding level, and the fact that it's likely to have the bait close to the hook.
