I have some real memorable captures:
A 28lb carp from the local river caught on a 3hour session, which for years was my largest fish and one I still class as a PB, my first 20lb fish from Earith, my first 30 from Nazeing Brackens, a 4 fish capture over 4 days in winter from the Central lagoon and my current largest fish at 33lb caught in December.

Plus a number of fish from the 350acre Alton reservoir, 2 20's in one night, 23 and 28, a night with 3 20's that was so severe with wind and rain I could not get pics of the fish, my camera and phone were soaked through.

Two of the most memorable though were 2 fully scaleds from Ardleigh on the night of the London bombings. Memorable not for the fish especially, but because I had a very close friend who was on the tube when one of the bombs exploded. I had tried to ring him on the first fish, but only got his answer phone, he always answered. Thank god he survived and we still fish together as much as we can.

    85/90 gram😉
Haven't bought maggots in ages, but last time was a 568ml beer mug and the last of the tub and I had to do it myself as the girl in the shop didn't like maggots😂😁
I did tell her and she discounted the sale as it wasn't 2 full glasses😉

I rarely use distance sticks either, it seems old fashioned, but I will either walk them out if I’ve got the space or use a marker set up to find the spot then clip the rods and spod up to the marker. Whip the marker in and whack them out there.

… and any other cobbled together unit of measurement like “rod lengths”. We have a perfectly adequate and unambiguous system of measurement called the metric system. Why make life complicated by using anything else?

Today marks 20yrs since British troops went into Afghanistan. As an ex squaddie, I will be taking a moment to reflect and remember those who deployed there, the lads and lasses who went and did their jobs and those who didn’t make it home. Regardless of the reasons, rights and wrongs or the withdrawal, thousands of us deployed, not all of us came home.

looks like some sort of bait in a dissolving outer skin, or it does look like one of my home made pop ups  cork dust base mix hard bait with a wrap of base mix on top.  nice set of trout ticklers too

Reminds me of some Pedigree pet treats so maybe it's high-end cat food.  Drill it and rig it up and cast it out.

Found military Surplus and hunting or shooting clothing is a whole lot better than most fishing clothing and does not have a premium price tag.
Wasn't planning on washing the waterproof stuff, and I just do the normal jacket and trousers in the machine inside out to reduce fading.
The one thing I will say is I think the older woodland/jungle dpm was better in this country and the mtp is more suited to the Afghan and Iraqi theatre. It seems to blend in better with the paler stonier background more than the UK greenery

Ahh the good old MTP gortex! I got a bit left over from my army days, just don’t wash it in a washing machine! It trashes the waterproof qualities and turns it a pinky shade!

I use a Sonik Vader S&M Hybrid Spod and Marker.
Biggest problem is the 50mm butt ring, they do get chipped easily in transit, I have had to replace it twice.
Personally I prefer 40mm butt rings and the 50mm does NOT improve casting distance. I can cast  Century Big Bertha with 40mm butt ring further, but as I use the one rod for spodding and marker/leading around now I slimmed the tackle down.

I'm off today until Friday. I was supposed to be going to Redmire, but dog sitter let me down, (not necessarily a bad thing), and seeing how weedy Redmire is at the moment put me off, so it is over to the syndicate lake.

Plenty of pellets, maize and boilies in the gear, along with the dog food and tackle.
Really not sure how to approach the lake as sitting and waiting for the fish to come over bait has not really worked.
Finding them in 40acres of very weedy water can be tough, swans, tufties and coots make life harder

I've just come back to the sport after 20yrs out of the game. I'm no novice as I've fished for Carp since the late 80s. I do tie all my own rigs and my craft may be a bit rusty but fishing is fishing. Once you know where the likely spots are it becomes all about timing.
Recently had an operation which has limited my mobility while I recover. On my first day back on a lake I've never fished I blanked. I had 4 takes and lost them all in the heavy weed. Gutted but it only served to make me improve, plus I knew my instincts were right.
Next trip I fished a different spot but despite my best efforts blanked completely. I wasn't dissalusioned as the swans were using my part of the lake as a practice runway and the weather all construed against me. I still had a lovely chilled day out.
I picked up a useful bit of info prior to my next visit that the owners feed the carp on maize every spring. Straight onto eBay and 20kg bag of maize was winging it's way to me. I took 5kg of maize and hemp mix with me and baited the spots I first fished. Now I understood where the fish were going so now it was just about presentation. I changed all my rigs specifically for this.
I got onto the lake about 6:30am and baited the spots heavily. I then fished a boilie with a mesh bag. By 6pm I had 3 fish and I was buzzing. Phoned the Mrs to let her know I was doing the night. So glad I did as I pulled another 6 fish out including a beautiful Tench of 4lbs. My biggest Carp was a 17 with another 5 early to mid doubles. Not massive but the buzz it gave was off the charts.
Note to one's self do not do a night in a chair or wearing a T-shirt and jogging bottoms. I was frozen and bitten by every poxy mozzy but I could give a rat's a#*e I had one of the best 24hr sessions in my life.
Never give in never give up😎
