Lovely rods, I have certainly had some fun landing carp on mine.. I have several others and they all get used when needed..  they are never going to be as good as my modern stuff.. but good fun when you do use them..

They are a pain in the bum to do but the rod certainly looks better for them....

My old MkIV is a kit rod, mullered and soft with a bit of delamination near the butt... retired now sadly...

Not sure if they add strength, but they do add weight and stiffen the action.

Not that I would ever think you would, but a properly finished cane rod sells for loadsamoney...
That means getting the same number of 'whips' on every ring past the foot

If i decide to whip the intermediates ( which i probably will ) luckily I can still see where the original intermediate whips were so i should be able to get them back about right.. I don't think I would ever sell any of my vintage stuff, I have 5 built cane rods in all and they all get well used.. hence this one being refurbished.

Problem is different manufacturers have different sizes.
In some I'm xl or large top, yet trousers are either medium or large. Chest size is 42, with 16 collar in shirts.
Hard part is the 32/34 waist with 32/33 inside leg, exactly as I was when I left school, 24 years ago!

They don't usually float when they go off, the oil goes rancid and becomes inedible and I think toxic.
Frank and probably Greekski know more than me on that.
A very worthwhile tactic anyway, some smaller sized pellets in a batch often do float until they have taken on water and break the water surface tension.
I use the method on Bromeswell regularly to get fish right into the margins, then fish a free lined bait on the surface hanging off the rod tip. It is where a nice brown trimmed pop-up really scores...

You are spot on about inflows giving oxygen and also stirring the bottom, my last house was a two minute walk from our canal ( which I fished for twenty odd years for carp ) there was one part with a high bank and field on the opposite side, the farmer used to pump water out of the canal in late evenings, the water was pumped up the steep bank into a tanker and when the tanker was full the overflow would come down a return pipe back in the canal causing a powerful wash which stirred up the bottom and at the same time put lots of needed oxygen back into the water... I used to regularly bait and fish areas 25 yards either side of the pump.. superb fishing.. I really miss that canal now I have moved.

Oh, another good spot can be inflows. A number of canals have top-up reservoirs, which allow water lost through locks to be topped up, or even incoming streams. These provide oxygen as well as offering food spots.

When I was making my own Trigga, my neighbours cat would come round. I'd be taking them out of the pan tipping onto the air drying tray and she would pinch them.
    As for dogs...
I used to have a Shetland Sheepdog, I had made some fishmeal boilies which I had coloured blue. The little git ate about a kilo of the 5k I had made. For the next week he was excreting blue.

Sky has been known to pinch baits, a whole tub of  red pop-ups turned her poo bright red.

I was air drying cell on a garden table, i said keep a eye on them to the Mrs I’m just popping  out to get some beer.  I was gone 20 mins tops, putting the beer away I noticed a magpie on the fence look at look at the size of that, that’s nothing the good lady says I counted 6 of them earlier. Needless to say the bait was gone and she didn’t get any beer

Yes it does sink well. Stretch is around 10%, roughly half of what mono is.

One thing, if there is algae in the water, as with any line, it does bring it to the surface.
I do like it and use it when I can get hold of it.

I know a few people rate Tiger line, I think Johnson Ross sell it in 1000 and 250 metre spools.
I have used P Line Floroclear in 15lb, a fluoro coated copolymer, that is good stuff. I have to have a good search on ebay and buy a few spools at a time as it is imported, often from Poland or USA. (There is currently one spool on the bay in UK and carriage on the Polish is around £9.90).
P Line do do Tactical Fluorocarbon, but I have not heard on seen reviews.

First one is built already, the second just needs a coat of rod varnish.
I felt rough yesterday, lacked motivation, so once I had walked Sky and cleaned the car, I just settled down into whipping rod eyes and fitting reel seats, an easy repetitive job.
The second rod will be varnished today, given an overnight dry and ready Monday.
Looking at the forecast it might be snow pike time!

Tea should be made in a pot with real (biodegradable) tea leaves.
Not tried nettle tea, although I do drink some herbal teas and Earl Grey.

I do drink mostly coffee, made now in Bialetti, but that is not a good idea if you do want to actually sleep sometimes

salokcinnodrog got a reaction from Carpmaster in OVER DOSING ON BOILIE DIPS
If you are using Boilie dips then my advice is to fish single hookbaits, with limited or no freebies around it. You are relying on the attraction of the Hookbait to pull the carp to the bait.

As for overdosing, even with shop bought dips and glugs, unless you know that they don't contain any ingredients that, in excess, can repel carp then its possible that they can be overdosed.

I much prefer Glugs/dips that contain things like Nutramino, Multimino, CSL Liquid, but with no added flavours. It tends to be the flavours that act as a repellant in excess. Who knows what percentage of flavour in a dip is going to make it repellant?

Its also far better to get the carp onto a long term food source bait and feed regularly, (even when not fishing), than to fish Attractor baits as in many waters the carp are now getting extremely wary of Hi-Vis and/or overflavoured hookbaits.
