    hey guys,

more than a couple of the threads i have started have turnt into proper debates, even heated ones. this one i expect to be no different lol. i cant help but notice a lot of negativity towards korda, not just here, other forums, even on the bank. i dont understand it, i get that a few of their products have had issues but is this down to everyone using it, what i mean is that if there are 1000 korda hooks purchased a week (obviously for arguments sake) and 100 from another company, if say 1 in 100 hooks are not up to scratch then your only going to hear about 1 from x company but 10 from korda. when you look at the sheer amount of tackle items korda produce then surely you would hear about more problems than other companies out there?

as for people having a go at thinking tackle and masterclass dvd`s/films, yes i know that its 90% advertising and some (especially newer anglers) can get caught up in it. but i think they have no equal in the way they have informed us about carp care, how to handle the fish ect. i know some people will have been very experienced in all things carp care and all the rest without the dvd`s, some may even say they are wrong in what they preach, but not everyone has been fishing 10 years, not everyone had someone experienced to teach them. ive only been fishing for 5 years, without the dvd`s out there i wouldnt have known where to start. after watching a few i knew what different items were out there, what they were used for, what situations needed certain bits, i did get caught up in it, i think korda shares went up 150% in my first months fishing lol, but as mentioned, when it come to fish care, handling, and identifying what was needed for weed, snags ect i fear i may have unknowingly put carp at risk without what i learned from the dvd`s.

in my latest thread on leads it amazed me how people on here who i would say are very experienced didnt agree on certain things, what was safest. as with most things in fishing everyone has their own way, and as long as they are doing everything in their power to be safe and look after our beloved carp then thats cool. im no korda lover, but like most of us i do have several items of theirs in my tackle box. i just think they get a bad rap sometimes when in some areas, most importantly the ones mentioned above i think they have done more for carp angling than most. all just my opinion of course, im interested to hear yours.

Shame on the bailiff that let whomever fish like it, in my opinion.

It's easy to belittle the angler who uses the 'death rigs' or set ups but in the main it's down to their lack of education and the bailiff has the prime responsibility to be checking and educating.

All of the tackle is readily available and doesnt come with sufficient instructions. It's easy to see that someone who doesn't know better would think that 45lb braid to 40lb lead core is super safe; after all, who could snap it?

You also get anglers who think that you need line over 40lb to catch a fish over 40lb.

We will all be happy if no one fishes with these type of tactics on any of our waters but unless they are better educated you're nor going to cure the problem, just move it along.

My advice would be to find your local bait firm and support them. Almost every town has one now, they are everywhere. Almost all of them offer at least one blinder of a bait.
Call them and ask to visit them. Ask about their bait and the thought process behind it, see it/smell it/feel it - any bait firm worth their salt will be happy to show off their product to you. You'll soon figure out if the bait's any good and whether they know what they're talking about or not. Then buy direct from the drying trays with no postage costs. You'll get a bait as good as any of the high street brands, it'll be cheaper, fresher, you'll know what's in it, it can be customised.... there really is no excuse to be buying mass produced bait at 10-15 quid a kilo any more.

You will find one or two rubbish suppliers but the market is now so saturated that those guys simply cannot last the distance. You make rubbish, your company goes under, simple as that (unless you're one of the big boys with a mahoosive marketing budget).

My recommended bait is made by Burton Bait Rollers Ltd - they do a bait called Gravity that is quite unlike anything I've ever used. It's a nut-meal, flavoured (very heavily) with cinnamon. I turned to them last year and on my first 2 sessions had 9 carp to mid 30's on a lake where it's not entirely unusual not to catch that in a year. I've been using it ever since. It just seems to work instantly, everywhere. Took it to France a couple of weeks ago and had the best session I've ever had. It's awesome stuff at a good price.

I believe the hook first takes hold when the bait is ejected after the fish has sensed the hook. Now its secondary,be that bolt effect or water pressure on a slack line That set it home fully, the weight of a running lead doesn't change how more or less the hook is set. once its taking line off the reel both set ups will either set home the hook further or risk pulling.

When fish use the lead to shake out the hook its because the hook is only semi set(ejection stage)

Thank you chaps! Yes yonny is correct, I couldn't yesterday as by about 4 every swim was taken! Spr I will happily share any info I have, I'll pm you later RE the shallows. I also found a good video the bailiff made detailing some swim info.

Crusian where are you headed? Good luck to you!

I have the Optonic G1's. First two sessions out was pretty much 96 hours of pure rain, I think they had about 4 hours of dry weather.. Still work perfectly.

Hi Tony, can I politely point you to this post on basic carp care, there are some other discussions on holding fish for the camera - keeping the fish low to the floor and over a mat; if  the fish are dropped it can cause serious damage and we want to catch it when it's bigger

Another way I lengthen the hair is a piece of dental floss threaded though the hair loop. Thread the bait on then tie off with a bait stop.

Another quick session saw me land this 18lb common yesterday morning, the fish landed 10mins after my first cast to the snags. Also landed a common of around 6-7lb which was unhooked in the net.

Managed a quick session on Saturday morning, and as I didn't have long I headed to my local club water in Coventry. Got there for 6am opening and after a scan of the main lake I was set up for 6:30 in the swim I'd seen activity. Fishing to a treeline on the far margin I fished 1 rod against the snags. Managed 2 carp, a 14lb 2oz common and this 19lb 12oz common. Happy with the result and all in 3hrs fishing.
