Had one more late morning whilst packing up, a low double certainly a looker for the future.

Agree, that's not unusual for this time of year. It is very much getting to that time when you're better off with zigs out for a 24 hr period.

Not been fishing this weekend but what did I learn?
I wanted to go fishing, I thought about fishing, I watched fishing videos and I got bored and bought some bits of tackle for fishing 😂

Just got back from a 24 hour blank. It was warm enough during the day but my mat was frozen in the morning. The lake did seem dead, I only saw 2 fish roll in all that time. At 1p.m. the bloke opposite had a run and his mate in the next swim was about to net it when he had a take. My mate who was 100 yards away 'phoned me to tell me he'd just caught one. As far as I could tell, that was it for the whole lake. I did have one aborted pull at 5a.m but that was it. Apparently the previous week they had a match on and only 6 fish were caught out of 17 swims.
You can only conclude that there was a (very) short window in which they fed.

Just done my first night on my new bedchair. Early birthday present, the avid benchmark lite system. Been a long time coming as my old one was literally falling apart!
I will be purchasing a bedchair cover for the colder nights as it 100% needs it. Got my eye on the cult tackle Sherpa lined one.
Other than that it was very comfy!

Depends largely on your budget and your technique mate.
If you want to spend money and are well voiced in big casting then the Harrison Trebuchet is a monster for distance work.
If you want to spend money but not the worlds biggest caster the Trebuchet Light is much easier to compress but still capable of massive distances.
If you want to save money the Shimano rods (TX2, TX4 and TX7) are supposed to be very capable in the high test curves and available at much lower cost.
Ultimately any long stiff rod will get you distance but as with most things budget makes a difference.

You'd be banned if you were caught using that in the uk mate. The set-up needs to be able to drop the lead in the event the mainline parts. Otherwise it can lead to a tethered fish. Commonly referred to as a death rig. Get some proper lead clips buddy.

Many thanks for all your help , everyone .
Later this week I hope to visit the lake again , and have a mooch around the far ( out of bounds ) margins to see if there are any more corpses - hopefully not .

Like it - can I borrow your dog mine would run the other way lol
It was amazing hearing the Coot alarm calls sounding around the lakes  - I will remember that for a long time.  I think 99% of  the anglers around the lake were completely unaware.

I'd agree with this - sounds like an otter unfortunately.
I was on one of the busiest waters in the country a few weeks back on a full lake, had to call the bailiff first night as an otter swim past my rod tips at dusk, spent the next 3 nights on watch.
Whilst I didn't see him second night the Coots gave his presence away by calling out to one another in turn around the lake - then the next lake and so on until I had a 360 degree chorus.  It was a real Terry Hearn and the Fox and Pheasants moment.
These hand reared otters have zero fear of humans, every swim is taken, many anglers have dogs yet here he is bold as brass!

That defo sounds like an otter to me.
Imo there's no way a mink will take a double. A single yes, but not a double.
A fox would eat the whole thing.
Your description of the kill screams otter to me. They tend to go for the really nutritious stuff (e.g. liver, heart, kidneys) which leaves the corpse looking just as you've described.
Could go either way. If it's a small water they/it could well stick around for easy pickings. I'd assume it's a dog otter doing the rounds and it could come back and empty the place but not necessarily.
All you can do is keep your eyes open and think about a fence.

The sightings on the water I fish are very, very ziggy already. The place hasn't done a bite off the deck in 3 weeks now. Although it's not done a bite on zigs either like.....🤣

Caught on all of those except Walnut. You can also add Macadamias.
Tigers are the timeless classic for me but a Brazil takes some beating as a hookbait! Just a pity they’re all banned on my waters and I would rather lose a kidney than my Gold card🤣

Don't like monster particles myself had a bad batch of tigers and they wouldn't refund them, as yonny said get yourself a burco boiler, now I just do mine as and when I need them, fresh is best, and it just adds to the excitement of going fishing,
Tigers soak for 24 hours and then in a burco I tend to boil them for an hour or so as it heats and cools more,
Otherwise if using pigeon conditioner soak for 24hrs and Boil for 30
I think I need a more industrial sized burco though as mine isn't big enough for a massive hit of particles, it's good for tigers and odd bits but needs more girth for a big job of hemp and that

Deffo be doing that 👍, Deffo be after New Year, I'll Lead about and try to find some spots, maybe even invest in a baiting pole.
But it's on the Fishing list for a Canal Carp next year. Think I've spent about £60 and got about 60kg bait so far (all pellet and particle).
Also be at the N.A.S in February.... Been looking at Monster Particle Deals.
