    Is the correct answer Fudgie.
Don't get me wrong, I love your posts and although we live quite a way away from each other I'd love to fish a session with you and meet you mate.
But it only seems a short while ago we were explaining some of the very basics to you with regard to carping.
Now, a few short weeks later you are discussing using centre pin reels and backwinding.
My advice is to banish such thoughts from your head and leave those sort of things to the "experts" or the "purists" mate.
Can you remember how you felt recently when you caught your biggest carp? You were as chuffed as monkeys and we could all tell by your posts how excited you were, we were all excited for you.
Imagine now how you would feel if you hooked into that sought after twenty, and you got snapped up and lost it by trying to either backwind or hooked into him with a centrepin reel???
There is a reason why fixed spool reels were introduced, complete with their fantastic clutches. To make fishing easier for the masses mate.
This game is difficult enough to work out sometimes, without adding further complications.
As carp machine points out above.......don't try to run before you can walk.
Backwinding, or using a centre pin reel won't catch you that twenty mate.
Watercraft, and learning the basics, (and learning them WELL) will.

I wouldn't be taking the big stuff.

Leave the carp gear at home, groundbait, stalking, floaters would be my main. Don't have to fish for carp all the time, and its plenty fun trying for crucians and tench, carp are just a bonus

Never been a fan of superglue anywhere near my hooks, always worried about leaving a chemical signal near my bait, yes I know people glue their mixers on, still not keen on it

No, I think it's highly disrespectful in any case to ask someone to leave a swim for whatever reason. If you're that reliant on a double swim, find a lake with more than one for a start.

Unfortunately not. You must have fallen through a wormhole and travelled back in time as Strangeways is HMP Manchester these days

Certainly wasn't expecting roast chicken for dinner on my first day in prison, but according to my slightly too friendly new cell mate, 'White meat's back on the menu tonight!'
