  1. Got my personal best for Pike as well this season. And the mirror, grass and other carp species are biting well now. Best way to reach me to make fishing plans is either via here or my TS3 server: originaldu.mainvoice.info:8048 "Look for Sarath"
  2. Fishing season is well upon us if anyone wishes to fish venues in the Bayern / Bavarian regions of germany pop me a line. I also go for a week each year to Northern Denmark to fish for off shore Cod. I usually do this in the June / July time frame due ot weather conditions, these trips require reservations for the ship, crew and lodging, so get with me ASAP for the 2018 season if interested. Took one over 95CM this year, average size is 50cm to 100cm.
  3. I have dyslexia and often after posting something will see mistakes I have made, often it is like ot instead of to, form instead of from and the like or broken sentences which even knowing why annoys me ot see in print. but when I go back to edit them it tells me I do not have permisison to do so although I am the author of that specific post. I have noticed that the forum here does not seem to have a spell check functiona automatically as well which makes it more difficult since even when reading stuff I see it normally as most would see the miss spellings automatically. Si if there is a spell check function could someone tell me where it is since I do not see miss spelled words highlighted when typing them. Also such things as FORM instead of From would not show up anyway. Or more easily is there some way to get editing permisisons for replies and post that I make please so when I do see them pop out at me after posting I can fix it to save others the headaches of trying to read words written backwards. Thanks.
  4. Hi all yes it can be difficult to obtain a German license, but there are a few ways that may help. 1) Are you active US Military or contracted worker, ie a ID Card holder with logistic support? If so check the Local MWR on your base and you can get a basic license for up to 3 years after taking a basic week long course of like 4 or 5 days. 2) If not and simply here as a tourist, check the local rathause or local city hall and ask them about a basic visitors fishing permit, which can be in some locals up to 6 months if here on a visitors visa or such. They may ask if you hold a internaiotnal or fishing license form a different country so if oyu have one best to take it along just ot be safe as they simply want ot confirm that you have a basic angeling knowledge before giving you a temp license. if oyu have a friend in the area who has a regular german license they cna go and vouch for you as a visiting angler and may help make the process less problematic. I do this once a year for friends coming out of ireland and England when we do our annualo germany 2 weeks fishing trips. Yes there is historical reasons for the fishing requirements. And if you think the fishing license is hard try the hunting license LOL. I have both life time fishing and hunting license from Bayern Germany which is considered one of the toughest regions to get them from and it was a shock to my system as well when I first got here and went to go fishing. Basic fishing laws and why. Originally Germany was broken into small kingdoms and only the royalty could hunt or fish unless you were like a gorunds keeper or a beater which gave oyu certain special priviladges or special permisisons. As time went on these formulated into special clubs if you will. Once the entire monarchy system was demolished by the end of WWII, they needed a new way to establish fishing laws and rules, the same for Hunting as well. So the basic scholastic format was developed with permits requirements. There is no Open water in germany, someone or some city owns the water and all items in it. As such why the need for water or daily fishing permits, if you are not part of one of the fishing clubs which monitor and have fishing rights to specific waters for that club. Fishing clubs can be expüensive items just on their own with memebrship fees, and registration processing, I have seen some that require upü to 500 Euro just to register with the club so be careful if going into a club about monthly memberhisps, required times to be on the water for cleaning and upkeep and such. Baits and Fishing seasons: The green movement really put a hamper on fishing and hunting as well as Germany does not have the concept of trophy or Sports fishing. Hunting in germany as well as fishing is more oriented towards livestock management that trophy hunting. So a hunter gets more points if they take down say a deer with deformed antlers than one who gets a perfect 12 point buck at any hunting gathering. Actually the guy who shot the perfect specimen may face fines or at the least be shunned by fellow hunters unless he had gotten special permissions form the Waldmiester first. Yes you can shoot good stock but this is usually again based on the local populaiton, the need to cull that populaiton and the available male to female ratios at any given time. This same principle is in effect for fishing as well. So a much more green or wildlife mamagement concept and as such why the reasons for classes to cover species, seasons, local and regional laws and such. Also fishing with certain baits is prohibited. Any bait can not be fished if it is live and has a vertebra as it is considered causing undue pain to the animal and yes this includes Minnows and the like. I almost failed my class test because I placed down Crickets as a viable live bait, instead of the expected earth worm reply. I had to bring in a photo of the cricket neural system to show my instructor that they like worms, had gangleon and not a vertebra nervious system. I then was passed. So the classes are required partially due to developed customs, to insure the individual has a full understanding of the laws, regulaitons, seasons, and such for the different fish species, as well as knows the required legal avenues for obtaining use of water rights, AND if needed as the land may be owned by a different person than the water rights, what is needed to get permissions to be on the land while fishing the water. It can seen confusing for those of us who come form contries where you simply walk up to a house and knock asking "hey can I fish your pond", or simply stop at the local river and dorp in a line for the evening. but as with all conutries there are reasons and history behind why each country does things the way that they do and us as fishermen have to show our respect for such traditoins and laws by adhearing to them no matter how insane they may seem to us. Where are you located in germany anyway? I am down near the Ansbach Bayern region, if close by I will do what I can to assist you if wished. I will be gone July 4th through 19th fishing in france, then back for 4 days then off fishing in the netherlands for a week, then back until August 14th when I am off to the RSI Star Citizen gaming party in Colonge for the weekend. After that or inbeteeen those trips you can easily reach me via my gaming groups Teamspeak 3 server. Most updated TS3 log in info is here for anyone who wishes to grab me via voice comms. Since the password changes it is best you check here first for current info. : http://starcitizen-spams.weebly.com/contact.html Login and check for Avalean, Voidrunner or Dark Uncle, those are usually my call signs when in TS3. If not able then PM me here and we can exchange SKYPE info privately. Galwin
  5. Sorry going for my first france trip as well in July but we are at the Etang de Brigueuil lake. Now as for me I Contacted the lake owners and they have a weekly lake update on what is being caught where and on what. So I made myself 500 Garlic Boilies, 800 Pineapple ones, about 500 popups and in the range of 20 to 30mm in size. Since I ask and the lake also has Tinch, Schlie, bream, sun pearch and other fish, I am taking my light tackle as well to tick off a few species for conutries fished form ht e bucket list. Note for my trip we are going for 2 weeks straight and I am taking around 2000 plus boiloes in total to include popups, they also have a lake house on the site just in case I need anything quickly. As for Amount of boilies to take, this is how I calculate for almost any short or long term fishing trip. In this case we will calculate for boilies and this is basically how I added them up for my trip. 1) Are you fishing single or bouble boilies per line? 2) How many lines do you plan to have in the water at a time? 3) Do you also plan to bait the area with feeder boilies and if so how many do you plan per hour to put into the water? 4) How long is the trip in total fishing hours that baits will be in the water? NOW: Add for each rod used the number of boilies per rod being used. Let us say 2x 20mm boilies per rod, with 3 rods in the water. so that is 6x 20mm boilies average bait change say 6 hours to be marignal. Now add how many hours a day rods will be in the water, 6 boilies per session X 18 hours of fishing between sleep, so about 18 boilies per water session just to be safe for any lost boilies due to bites. Now add the days of fishing which is usually 7 per venue for france, so 18x7= 126 boilies JUST for the lines alone. Now do the math for the feeder boilies: Number of boilies per feeding into the water, number of times per 6 hours boilies will be added to the water, times the number of days to be fished, gives you about the average number of boilies you will need for feeding pruposes. I really do not do a lot of feeding since many lakes here in bayern do not allow it, but do allow for PVA Bags / nets, so I calculate how many boilies I can place into my 25MM PVA Net per cast and go with it form that perspective since I am then not violating the laws. This calculaitons sohuld give you a good estimate of how many to take, I then add about a hundred or so extra just to be safe. Also most venues have a bait house on the lake or near by, be sure ot ask them about that, remember that also they have ot make a profit so baits may be higher priced on locaiton as well. If they do not then I suggest that google is your friend, do a quick search for local fishing shops and have those preset in your Car navi system if driving down. That way if you do happen to need more boilies, terminal tackle or such, you know where to go grab it quickly and with as little problems as possible. Hope this helps. Galwin
  6. Thanks, still working out how the posting here works and such. But hoping to maybe find a few fishing partners in my area as well as help those visiting when possible. Just how I was raised is all. Still learning this carp fishing thing, but hey when in rome right? OK I see now once a new post has been added it will not let you edit even typos form the previous one, strange.. anyway, I also have the German Life time fishing license so mainly looking for fishing waters in the area that would allow for over night camping. That way I can roll in set up by the water fish, sleep on site at night then fish again the next day type thing. Again always looking for fishing partners as well. Thanks for the welcome Galwin
  7. Sorry for typos in above post folks but it will not let me edit so here goes again. Retired US Army here, fished all over but never really for carp of all things. A friend of mine in Ireland has got me started, so still looking for good spots to fish in my local area of Ansbach Bayern Germany right now. Any intel on possible locals and where ot getwater tickets is most welcomed. Also I am most happy to meet others fishing in the area or visiting and who may need crash space over night and a hot meal, especially if traveling long diatnces to fish the area. Right now trying to get my 10 yr old Godchild interested but his Mom still has him ties to her, LOL, so just getting him out for the day can be a chore in itself right now. Anyway I mainly fish on the military base areas in Hohenfels and Stork barracks areas for now, still scooping out possible good fishing areas that allows camping so I can do weekend stints when desired. Please note folks that Bayern / Bavaria Fishing laws usually does not allow for over night or all night fishing, 1 hour before sunrise, one hour after sunset is the norm. I have been told IF you know the private lake owners that they will allow overnight fishing permission, but for most visitors and Expats like myself that is usually a no go. So anyway, always up for a day on the water with preplanning and always willing to help a fellow fisgherman or woman if possible. Galwin US Army Med. Ret. VFW Ansbach Bayern Germany
