Sounds like you need to get a handle on the woman, drop a few hints that you and a few work mates are thinking of doing a lads weekend in Amsterdam next year, she will have no problems with you spending up your spare time on fishing.
I take it most of you guy's ladies don't read the carp forum either?
Great stuff on the catch, it's an eye opener on the regular baiting approach, i daren't try, if i was to turn up and the swim wasn't free i can't be sure of my reaction, could be one of those bad decision in an instant moments.   plus it's a 100 mile round trip not what i call local, have been dropping hints of a move to Wellingborough on a home exchange but she is having none of it.

Carpbell_ll got a reaction from S34MH1 in What size of lead do you use?
Depends on the test curve of the rods you are using, if your rods are 3lb TC a lead between 2-4 oz would be ideal anything more would bottom the rod out, anything less will not load the correct tension in the rod leading to more violent jolting takes and pulled hooks if the rods are on the stiff side.

No idea what lake depends on the wind direction before and what it’s going to do when where there, angling pressure and if we can get a couple of swims close together, once I’m set up won’t be moving. We’re giving Oxleas amiss tho.

On Thursday I popped over to the res on one of my weekly baiting trips, with a day sesh due on the Friday. As soon as I arrived I just knew I'd struggle to sleep that night (due to excitement for the next day). It looked absolutely BANGING, there is just no other word for it. I saw a couple of carp show, and there was fizzing on my spot. It was almost a shame to ruin it by chucking spombs all over the place but that's what I was there for so that's what I did.
At home afterwards the Mrs got a right earful about how confident I was, what I was going to catch, etc etc. Poor girl lol. I did struggle to sleep, I was waking every 45 mins and checking the time. Eventually it got to 04:30 and I couldn't wait any longer. Up and at them. I got to the gate way too early and had to sit waiting until 05:45 which is when you're allowed in. I headed directly to my area on this occasion, I had no desire to do a lap or check for signs of carp elsewhere. I was itching to get the rods out.
Half hour later and they've all gone out first time so I sit back and survey the scene. I see..... zilch. No shows, no fizzing, no nothing. I wait, and wait, and by 08:00 I'm thinking I must be at a different lake to the one I saw last night. I'm pacing up and down the bank looking for an opportunity somewhere. By 09:00 I'm sitting searching the far reaches of the water with my bino's having still not seen a single carp. It's much colder than I expected, the wind has picked up, and it has a bite to it. I'm just thinking this has killed it when the right hand rod rips off.
Last week I started baiting a new spot having had no luck on my main spot. This is the first time I've put a rig on it and it's away so it's a very promising start. The fish is only a stocky common but I'm not moaning. It's a real pretty fish, dark in colour, and it confirms the carp are still in the area. I take some selfies and send her back.

With the fish returned I have renewed confidence in my swim. I make a cuppa and keep watching and it isn't long before a carp sticks its head out right in front of me. Another shows to my right not long after, and I'm now expecting another bite. At 11:00 that bite comes and it's off my man spot which is GREAT news as I was beginning to lose faith in it. The fish puts up a good fight and when I see it roll I notice this massive scale on it's shoulder and I recognise it. It's one I had during last years little campaign, another stocky, but looking significantly bigger than last time. I have to say it's pig ugly, a big round simmo looking thing with absolutely massive fins and a huge tail. That said, I do love a character, so I'm happy either way. Couple of selfies and back she goes.

So now I've had a bite on both spots the confidence is growing big time. I've put a lot of time, effort, and bait into getting this area sorted and it's nice to see it paying off. Obviously stockies and repeats are not what I'm after but I know that the handful of big originals like this area and I'm certain it's now just a matter of time until I get amongst them. Lunch time comes and goes and while I don't see a great deal I do spot the odd sign that tells me they're still about. I try to have a kip but I struggle as I'm still pretty excited. By 14:00 I've given up on sleep and just as I sit down with a cuppa to watch the water one of the rods absolutely melts off.
This one fights hard, it has some weight to it, and it goes straight through my other lines, A bit of knit-one-purl-one and a lot of pulling goes on to get it anywhere near the bank. Again, I recognise the fish as it rolls. It's massive head comes out fist followed by a big old sandy coloured flank. It's one I've photographed for a pal last year. A proper one in every sense of the word, old as the hills and looking big. It doesn't cause me much drama at the net (thank god) and it's not long before it's resting in my retainer. I give my mate a call to help with the shots of this one.
On the bank she's looking pristine. These originals are mental looking. Big leathery brutes with high backs, little melted pecs and wonderful heart shaped tails. They remind me of the old Yateley fish a bit, and they have almost as much history. I can't help but wonder what this carp has seen since the late 70s when she was stocked as I hold her up for the photos. Otters, drainings, floodings, and more than 40 years of angling pressure do not seem to have bothered her one bit. Her old and wrinkly skin is dotted with little battle scars but in many ways she's looking good as new.

We get some water shots and I can't help but feel a little honoured as I hold her in the water letting her recover. She goes back strong and I wonder how many more years these carp will be here and how many more anglers they'll make happy. I get the rod back out but it's getting tricky as the wind has picked up big time. I put an extra half a wrap on to compensate for the bow on the cast, it's the best I can do for now, but I'm not 100% happy. Long story short the afternoon flies by and before I know it we're heading towards 20:00 which is kick-out time. The sun had come out and with blue skies the conditions didn't look so good. I had seen signs way, way off the back of my spot as they headed out of range. I had almost expected another bite but obviously I'm not moaning one bit with my result.
So yeah, great session, the area is coming together and I had a proper one, couldn't really ask for much more. This days-only thing is hard work at times, it requires real effort to get something going, but it looks like I might be getting there.  Roll on the next sesh.

Nice to see there are still conman mobile mechanics about, had a sticky-seized rear caliper, could do it myself but rang a guy to see what he wanted, 70 to 90 quid he says over the phone, ok call out, he arrives looks at the sticking side and says it's not the caliper the pads have gone, ( they tend to wear when stuck i thought ) check the other side i said, he has a look and says yeap just the same. No, i thought they are not, i let him carry on, he says, just need a set off pads fitting mate, ok i say do want to order them or shall i get a set dropped over? no mate he says order a set online and i will fit them when you call. Ok i say, then he tried to charge me a large call out fee, lol, no mate either fit the pads and sort the calipars now as i don't pay for a call out fee when the job is there if you want it. he would sooner walk away.
I went to a brake place, and as i said one side had stuck and worn the pads the other side was fine, just put new pads and disks on both sides did a oil and filter change while on the ramps and got mates rates, well free oil.

I already had the pads priced and in stock a five min drive away motor factors all over the place around here, just need the tool to rewind the caliper back and give it a clean up once they are sticking you need to clear the gunk out.

Look the dog's those ridgemonky bivvies, if you have a three wheel porter barrow the weight wouldn't matter too much.  not that i'm in the market for either but i would get one of these over the full spec Titan which is a great bivvy in itself.

I seem constantly amazed how big twenties are still, I did think it was a mid 20 at least till I weighed it, if I ever catch a 30 I will think its a shark, hope one slips up soon 😁
3 20s in 3 overnighters I can take that though happy days

My mistake before this one was buying a cheap compact bed chair for my brolley shelter lol
Bigger bed, bigger shelter I thought after suffering 2 nights in the compact brolley and bed.
Now I've got a bed almost too big for the car and a shelter that weighs a tonne.
    Back to the drawing board🤦‍♂️
2 Beds and a bivvy for sale, I give up 🤣

I agree that will help , I do think a softer boom may also help though, I think with a stiff boom unless you know its completely clean any little twig or debris , could help kick it off the bottom, maybe also use a mesh bag if you can to help slow it down in the water so it doesn't plug in so much 👍

Just back myself from a cruel couple of days on the lake, couldn't get a bleep never mind a take no liners nothing but had fish in my swim sure they were feeding on my bait, think i'm having problems with getting them to either find or take my hook bait, plus i noticed my hook length is kicking up off the line at the anti tangle sleeve might of pushed it up too far? didn't look good in the water edge, seems to happen when the hook length is too close to the lead on a helicopter lead, i was fishing combi rigs. could do with a more jelly like boom section.  some flat leads too.
Not a catch report i know but meh.

I managed to nip down for a cheeky midweek day sesh yesterday. My pre-baited area is still not happening which is really disappointing but that didn't stop me doing whatever I could to catch one of those old originals. I managed to keep track of the fish as they clearly reacted to a brand new south westerly. A well placed pop up with about 30 freebies did the trick and I was very happy to land another old'n. Really nice long fish. A repeat, but I could never be disappointed with a carp that's older than me.

Carpbell_ll got a reaction from S34MH1 in Hello, Salokcinnodrog, I am from China.
As far as brands go Fox is a very good company and they sell international, most of the good brands are made in Asia so you should be able to get good prices. if you want to spend some money and buy from the UK Solar and Jag are top quality British makers, along with rod builders such as Harrison rods. We don't make reels in the UK for carp fishing, Dawia and Shimanno  are easily found all over the world,
Most of the main UK brands sell good end tackle just depends on what you want to do.

OHH Sal has been put on a Chines naughty list for dissin' their carbon.... wonder what google translate will make of that.
Although, if S34MH1 is on the look out for carp tackle, China would be a good place to shop, tell us more about what kind of waters you like to fish maybe post a youtube video so we can see what you are wanting to do.
