where is the best carp fishing area in n s w

Recommended Posts

Well, this one did indeed go like the proverbial!!

I like to call him 'Silent Bob' mainly for the reason that someone 'who shall remain nameless' forgot to switch on the delk after recasting. As I glanced a lazy eye over my setup some minutes later I noticed my rod had an alarming sideways bend and the line was scything thru the water like a hot knife thru butter!! After a mad scramble and quite a few sweaty moments....viola...PB!!

Stoked!

Had a similar experience my self Ben with my Sundridge Delkims until I converted the remote sounder and fitted a mini vibrator[they dont come with it]...[not the female type either]....:lol: .

So now all the volumes are down on the heads and the sound box buzzes away merrily when I get a bite, very handy to have when fishing these stealthy urban waters over her in the west.

When I move back with my gear there may may need to be some minor alterations and Macgyver machinations! I'll know who to call for help though, Paul. You Aussie carpers sure are ingenious!!

No worries mate.

Steve,

I don't know if you're having a subtle boast or not.... but double figure mirrors are a little special in anyone's book especially fully scaled. So you really are gonna have to back up those claims with some photos!

Gotta say I really enjoy this sudden influx of photos too!!

I'll leave the boasting for a mirror 20 if it ever happens

I've had quite a few mirrors around that 8-12lb (4-6kg) size, I'm sure they're out there bigger tho it's just a numbers game really. I don't think they lack growth potential.

I'm the same I love to see what people are getting as well :D Get's me excited!

Hope I don't get too much criticism for a lack of a mat, but in my defense I try to only put them down on green grass... better treatment than most Aussie Carp get.

Usually only photo mirrors as they're a curiousity, really beautiful fish some of them. Here is one of my nicer fully scaled Mirrors... prob only 6lb but really pretty.

Mirror Recapture 8-9lb... first capture...

Mirror Recapture... second capture over a year later, hadn't grown much but a lighter colouration.

Mirrors aside this would be some of the my highlights from the last few years.

Around here I seem to catch stacks of Carp up to about 14-16lb, but it's pretty hard to crack a 20.... it's weird. My goal now is a 30, don't know if I'll ever crack it but I'll give it a damn good try...

New to the site so hello to all.

For me the best fishing is here, smack in Sydney, but only because it's close to home and offers great size fish.

No fancy types, mostly just Commons, sometimes a bright Koi.

Large water area allows for light lines and long runs.

This went 11.54kg / 25lb on 1kg fly.

Got three last weekend 8.1kg, 10.4kg & 11.7kg

Wonderful photos of sydney carp, you young fishermen are going to suprise a lot of people, but not me.i have been on about big carp for a long time, caught a few ,lost a lot.photos not much good with cameras or computers.not bad with a fishing rod ,age has got to have its compensations.however i have no doubt you fellows are going into really big stuff.i think 50lb is very possible, for an angler who can think outside the square.dont get tied down with some of the method of the week ,a thing that has come into angling, try natural presentation, slack lines ,no lead, thats a start.cheers macbilly

Amazing carp, there must be some special fish and waters up there.

It gives inspiration that there is some really big carp out there.

A 50lbs i am sure is out there locating one down, would be the really hard things. Massive waters and river chains, it could take a life time or some good luck.

Give us the shout when you catch one and so will i.

It's pretty hard to keep up with you blokes these days, with three fish like that in a weekend, I'd be really happy if those were my 3 best fish for the year!

I can see the ANSA Angel Ring trailer in the background, I'm guessing you might be one of the South Sydney Boys fishing down at Centennial Park?

Great guess.

Not sure where your based but give me a shout if you want to join us.

Just to wet your appetite Steve, these were two of the 9 that were caught on Sunday.

All were sent back on their way and are waiting for you.

I even wrote your name on one of them but you will have to catch them to see which one it was.

The mirror went 8.2kg & caught on 2kg pretest.

I use mostly the bread fly, made same as a glo bug but just in white. Coat it with floatant to make a few that float and a few that sink.

Others i use are worms, tadpole / mossi fish / bug.

Depends on how they are feeding as to what i throw.

Fly rod is 2 or 5 weight depending on how patient i feel.

If using bait i have a 1 to 3kg spin stick, usually fishing with spider web light lines.

Really interested to see what others are using.

Sorry to butt in, but i had some reasonable size carp from Woodcroft Lake, in Woodcroft nr Blacktown NSW when i visited Aus last year.

The majority of the fish landed was approx 15-18 lbs, but also had a few larger in excess of 20lbs on bread... but also seen even larger ones..

Had some very large eels from there too, certainly double figures.

Hope that helps..
