Hi Jon,

Greys is always a great choice. Every rod I own is a Greys and I love em. I tend to get mine second hand from eBay though. I’ve got 2.75 T/C original Prodigys and I’ve found them fine for everything I do. I banked a 49lb cat on mine a few weeks ago, so they’ll deal with most things you come across, but if you are looking at casting beyond 100 yards, and using big PVA bags, you might want to go for the 3lb T/C version. IMHO you don’t need to go as high as 3.5 T/C unless you’re looking at serious long range stuff, but then that isn’t exactly “all-round work”. Personally, I think you lose a bit of the sport when you go that heavy, but I’m sure there’ll be others who disagree.

i have the 3lb pluses mate and they are great rods imho. to me i think 3.25 is just that bit to heavy and will take a bit away from the fight tbh

FWIW I'd go with the 2.75lb Test Curves. Plenty versatile enough for any fishing you'd do in the UK.

Then again, there's nothing to stop you buying one of each - or indeed two

Torsion

Overview

The slimmest, lightest blank in the Greys carp range. First impressions last, but performance is proof. Take one look at the new Torsion carp rod and it's strikingly slim; pick the rod up and it's amazingly light and well balanced. Cast the rod and it becomes immediately apparent that the rod has massive reserves of power, more than happy with big leads and PVA bags yet surprisingly still has that all important feel under the rod tip during the crucial last moments of the fight.

Gone are the days of super slim blanks that just don't perform; this time Greys have really pushed the limits of physics. For those anglers really wanting to hit the horizon there is a 50mm butt available on models 3lb and higher. In summary the new Greys Torsion is quite simply the slimmest, lightest and best performance carp that we have ever produced. That's some statement when you've been producing rods for over 40 years!

Prodigy SX

The Prodigy name has become synonymous with both value and performance and the new Prodigy SX carp is no exception. Don't be fooled by the price, the new Prodigy SX is slim, lightweight and well balanced but just as importantly has great reserves of power for punching leads or PVA bags out to the horizon. With all these increases in performances you would expect something to give, whilst in reality its actually even lighter than the original prodigy rod!

The new ‘SX' really does set new standards in carp rod design and is set to become a firm favourite with many carp anglers for years to come.

Isoflex

The new Greys Isoflex Carp rod is set to make a big impact in the Carp world and heralds the launch of a number of exclusive Greys carbon composite technologies.

The ultra slim high modulus carbon blank has Greys trademark action providing plenty of low down casting power combined with a slender responsive tip for exceptional multi-range casting performance and fish playing ability.

Under the rod surface hides our new Dura-Core technology. This core of pre consolidated high modulus low resin carbon, maximises strength and has been shown to offer maximum resistance to carbon micro fractures which are a major cause of test curve decay. The rod surface has also been given a resin rich Carbon Armour finish that is extremely durable and also offers UV resistance. The result is a rod that will look and perform as good as new for years to come.

Combine this with the stunning new Greys GIR-1 reel seat with anodised collars, full length shrink wrap handle and stainless steel butt cap and you have a rod that has the looks to match its performance.
