Carp Stories

Recommended Posts

Great Story cob really enjoyed it and what a fish 8) The only exotic fish I've caught are Barramundi in Australia in the middle of Know ware at a river crossing I had to tackle. The pelicans told me there were fish present and being an angler couldn't resist having a go . The guy hitching a ride with me thought I was mad sat between the pelicans and the crocs (freshies) I hooked up to quite a few but they tail walk and jump 4-5ft out of the water so they kept shaking the hook . I eventually got one in and had it for dinner much needed protein at the time and Paul the guy hitching with me didn't think I was quite so crazy tucking into his fish supper :D

Haha! To be honest, I don't have many stories to tell! Not with as much style as the previous contributions!!

As I only have an IPhone to look at the forum on - you may have to wait a day or two until Jo is back from arthog with the laptop.

here a snippet of my diary from a few years back :oops:

Inpatients got the better of me, I could of waited till the next morning to get on Elsons but the urge to wet a line as soon a possible overcame me and soon I was on the way to a lake id never seen or heard of, after finally finding it I was rather happy that id been asked to fish it, more like a section of river. We quickly set up the bivvy, stashed the barrow in out the rain and took a wander around, the initial excitement of what we may see got us half way around till the long wet grass and nettles had filled our boots like we’d just waded out in the lake and with no signs of Carp we got back and set up while the steam rose from our feet. Id been asked to fish this lake to let the bailiff know what was in there, the lake next to it was run on ticket and wasn’t part of the deal, though the signs we see in there got our imaginations running wild. The morning turn out nice and we hadn’t had a knock so reeled in to investigate in dry conditions, it looks so carpy but its so overgrown we couldn’t see much of the lake in between the few swims, on the far bank we spent most of the time checking out the other lake, same again, loads of signs of Carp, big ones as well. The was a boat somewhere hidden that we could use, but we couldn’t find it and our confidence drained as we couldn’t get out and spot something to top it up. Our last night on there really started to grate on us, we could have been on Elsons painting a few finer details to our picture, “oh well we’re here now, lets try a get a bite” . the easiest way would be to find the fish, we had on the other lake……..we watched the cold night roll in and a few flashes of lightening , then like a sign the clouds rolled back and the moon shone down and lit up the bivvy, this was a sign, me and Greeny sorted out what we needed and headed off in the night with only light from the moon. We knew at least one angler was on that bank so stealthily crept past, the swim we wanted had a silhouette of a bivvy , we felt gutted, after what seemed like a 100 yard or so away we found another swim and in the moon light a few bow waves along the margin…result, we set up and gently swung out our rigs 10 or so yards out, this then must of spooked them out as they appeared 40 or so yards out, without even thinking id reeled in and cast to the spot then as we both sat down the moon disappeared behind the dark clouds and our poachers light went out. We both felt knackered and fell asleep laying on the ground, hoping that a take would wake us before first light or before we got caught guesting. Around 4am I woke suddenly, my rod was out the rest and laying on my leg, had I kicked it or was it a run that woke me? I picked up the rod and felt the line for signs, I tighten the line by hand to feel nothing, then as I reeled in a foot or so I heard an alarm……..matey in the swim up from us must be having a run. I froze as I thought it sounded right next to me and not the 100 or so yards away I thought he was, the alarm noise stopped, after a few minutes I tugged my line again……beep beep beep. I woke greeny, “ I think iv cast over his lines” I said “what, you sure” I tugged the line again, beep beep beep , we both went into a fit of hysterics, out of humour and a lot of panic, we didn’t want to get kicked off this lake before we’d even got the info on tickets. By now I realised that we hadn’t walked far at all, with our small stalking steps and creeping in the dark we weren’t more than 30 yards away, we bite down on our hands to stop any noise, by now he was standing by his rod, wandering what was going on I bet, I lay back down to hide, after a few minutes he must of returned to his bed so we packed up every thing till the last thing was my rod, I wandered if a lifted up the tip and heaved whether I could lift my line over his……….it didn’t work and he came running out to hit his screaming take, by tip bent around and I knew I was in the [censored] now I grab my pliers and cut the line packed the rod in its sleeve in a nano second and run after greeny who’d gone away struggling not to laugh out loud and give the game away , we didn’t stop for 5 minutes till we felt safe and stopped to get the hysterics over and talk whether I done the right thing, we didn’t want to ruin our chance of a ticket and I felt safe the chod rig and pop up wouldn’t bring any fish to harm if he didn’t reel it in any way. That has to be the funniest thing to happen to me while fishing and is the most memorable blank iv had and probably ever will, as we didn’t get a knock after we got back to the lake we were aloud on. To the angler involve…….sorry for the phantom runs.

I got caught at dungeness power station, had guns pointed at me as it was only a couple of days after the london bombings, it turned out i was fishing the pool that is used to cool the reactor for the power station should anything happen. OOOOps, :) i did need to change my pants after i was interviewed then escorted off the site, being shouted at to lay on the floor is no joking matter when you have 4 guns pointed at you, i wouldn't mind but i didnt catch anything either. :(
