Getting a Rise?

Recommended Posts

Yeah.....mixers. Cheap and easy to get a good few catapults of the stuff a fair distance. To be fair carp will have a slurp at pretty much anything that floats. I can't imagine they can see what's on the top too well when looking up from their dark depths into the bright sky, they just go for whatever breaks the surface..

A flake of bread is a nice bait for targeting individual fish in the margins too.

If they're slow up for mixers then they're likely to be slow up for everything really.

When they're reluctant to feed it can be best to start by trickling some bait in really slow - one or two mixers at a time every minute or so...when the fish start taking them that's the time to start upping the feed and get your hookbait in the mix.

An alternative is marshmallows - seen that done a lot. I just see them as a firmer version of bread really, stay on your hook a bit better.

Just be careful with the ducks. You might have to feed them off first. They can be a real pain and distrupt your carefully fed swim, but it's better that then hook one.

Try fishing first light best time for floater fishing bait wise I would lose feed dog biscuits little and often utill the carp are feeding confident hook bait super glue a mixer to a size 8 hook try and get the carp in close and freeline the mixer that way hope this helps tight lines and good luck

I've had success, as said, with Pedigree Chum Mixer and Bread.

But come this Summer I'm going to try Dry Fly.

tried this last summer and was great fun flies I used were all tied by myself using deer hair made to look like my free offerings great fun and would strongly recamend giving it a go

Hi Philip.

Can I ask... How did you fish the fly?

Just as a you would a Mixer, with a Controller Float etc?

I was thinking this...

Or even going down the full Fly Rod and Floating Line route.
