a gear review section

Recommended Posts

We did have one...

Members reviewed the gear that they use, and it was added to with pics, etc.

I'll see if I can play around andf set up a new one, but will have to be when I get some free time

I know we have a review thread/topic but wouldn't it be better for reviews to have its own whole section, possibly with its own sub sections (lines, reels, rods ect). The current thread/topic it great but its easy for posts to get lost in a thread with tons pages. Having a dedicated section would make items/reviews easier to find and imo be a great section to explore.

Dovii - not sure if you meant it this way but I'd even go as far as have a separate thread for each item, ie one thread for delkim txi reviews and a separate thread for fox Ntx-r reviews could in the long run stop a lot of repeated threads

thats exactly what i mean. im sure that most of us have used several different types of rods, reels, hooks, the list is endless. having a dedicated section would very quickly become a wealth of information which imo can only benefit the forum and as you say stop people repeating questions im sure come up often in regards to the more popular items out there.

Is this what you mean?

Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
Discussions related to carp tackle and equipment and selecting the right carp fishing tackle for your personal situation.

thats a cool section, but a dedicated section for only reviews set out the same as that would be a very helpful part of the forum imo.

So more like articles in the article section and maybe a thread to discuss the article in the "Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment" section?

That could work. Just a place where we could all review everything we have owned. It will very quickly be a massive amount of info if everyone gets involved in it. How many times have you been on the bank and spoken to a guy in the next swim and noticed something new that could benefit your fishing or make your life easier on the bank. Its a win win imo.

Is is not possible to just title a thread with the name of the specific product and go from there, if the thread drifts to much mods could be asked to chop it up ?

That was my original idea, but surely a section dedicated to them types of threads would make them easier to find and explore

That's more work for the mods Neal, an article (if the section works?) would allow someone to give a review of an item of tackle which can be taken or left, someone disagreeing is entitled to their opinion and can put their preferred item of tackle up in the same way.

Might need some criteria to work to though:

Kludge is really good

Kludge is not good

Sludge is better than Kludge

It's down to the mods etc.. to sort out at the end of the day, what say they?

Ianain - yeah fair play. However it goes I think there is a use for it, in my mind there'd be a klugde thread that would come up when searched and can be added to overtime by new users of said kludge, (I need to get me some kludge, sounds like the next big thing!((although mustn't be mistaken for clunge!!))

i need clunge, real quick

i think that if we had a gear review section it would have to have at least two tiers of subsections. ie.

Pod review section broken down into threads for each brand ie

cross pod reviews

X pod reviews

oakwood specialist pod review

or reel review section

diawa black widow review

Fox eos 10000 review

Mitchel Avocet 6000f reel review

that way a simple search of the make would bring up the reviews good and bad, also Joe public would be able to access the reviews too meaning that we would be providing a service to a lot wider audience than just this little corner of the WWW

The easiest way to do it, as it was done originally, is for someone to do a tackle review, then it can be stickied at the top of the Tackle and Equipment section.

You do gradually get a whole review thread going.

If questions get asked on an item, it's easy enough to pick up the review with a link. As for additional questions on the review thread, Mods can split the post away, maybe with an edit if needed asking additional questions.

How do you get to see the unbiased user reviews on this site?

I looked at a few and couldn't see any reviews, just a company write-up which may have been edited, but then again probably not? and a high rating with 1 or 2 votes but no review.

I don't want to be considered a troll or nay sayer or many other disapproving names. I'm not always one that's quick to see bs when I see it (I'm really quite a trusting kind of person), but this smells of something other than what it claims to be, and it isn't the bait that you are supposedly reviewing?

View that site with extreme cynicism and treat with cold shoulders is my free, unbiased review of it [the site].

I'm all for it, as Nick has already said how, we just need some reviews written to start the ball rolling and continue on its journey.
