I can't believe that only 12,000 people signed the petition to government to consider a cull. We need to get 100,000

That petition was a complete joke buddy, it was never going anywhere. It was for "For the introduction of non-lethal means of control of the Otter (Lutra- lutra)" when a license to trap and relocate (i.e. none lethal) otters is already available. They were petitioning for something that already exists!

Something has to be done??

No one is going to change things for us in the short term, we need to do it ourselves. If the waters you fish aint being fenced you need to persuade them to fence it, and assist with the costs, or walk away. The time for shouting for change is way passed, it's too late already.

What happens to the food chain if fish from the riverways dissapear also? I'm sure there are negative effects

There is no "if" buddy. The rivers are almost empty already.

@yonny I've noticed mate. Been roving my waterways recently and other than some nice roach it's been baron. I did see and feed some chub in the summer but I can't locate them now. Also tried piking, both deadbaits and spinners to little joy. As I said before the clubs that did have stretches on their books have given them up due to predation.

Why not start a petition for lethal means of control??

Surely there's more fishermen than tree huggers??

Well the otters are robbing us of our quarry.

Current state of our great government, by the time it gets agreed all the fish will be gone anyway!!!

I hope fishery owners take reasonable steps to manage this pest.

What wiped them out before?? Do it again?

I wish otter coats became vogue and all the fashion 😂
