Berkley Powerbait Maggots

Recommended Posts

G'day Mate,

I've been trawling the shelves of Kmart and BigW and BCF and I did come across these but can't remember which shop it was :D

They look kinda strange eh!! Haven't seen them in the UK before, well you can get real maggots easy enough at most tackle shops.

How'd you mount them on the hook, what size hook too? Was it an Australian or UK pattern? Don't suppose you can get maggot clips over here?

Can't see why they wouldn't work, persevere young man and keep us informed!

Cheers,

Ben

I put 3 or 4 onto the hook and pierce them through the middle. Hook sizes would be sizes 8 to 10. The pieces are quite small so I can't really mould them onto/around the hook like a worm or a grub. I don't know what type of pattern they are and never heard of a maggot clip before [i'm a carp novice]. Also I made a mistake with the name they are maggots but from the gulp! range.

The link above has photos of what the maggots look like.

Thanks for the reply citycountry, I will be using them tomorrow most likely, so I'll see what happens then.

Mate, I am really only an improving novice myself!!

Right, found a little linky for the Korda maggot clip

And then also how to tie the rig

I don't know if you use any english rig bits or make do with what you can get over here. So if you're not sure of alternatives let me know. I reckon you could substitute the clip for a snap swivel just cut the swivel off with some wire cutters. These things...

Maggots are predominately used in winter for carp in the UK. They don't need as much food for energy and a little morsel of maggots is just the ticket!!!

Cheers,

Ben

Hi there.I have use fake maggots before in the uk. There are several ways to mount these without a maggot clip.I would thread 5 or 6 onto a fine sewing needle then feed them onto a piece of line 1 to 2 kg breaking strain. Then tie a simple over hand knot the maggots will form a nice little ball shape. Now you will be left with 2 lengths of line use this to tie the bait to your hook or directley to your hair rig. From my experience this type of bait works best over a large bed of bait when fish are feeding confident.Hope this is of some help tight lines
